Panzi Hospital and Foundation (Panzi) is seeking an experienced,
creative, and detail-oriented Development and Communications
Manager who is passionate about women’s rights, social justice, and
ending rape as a weapon of war. Panzi provides survivors of sexual
violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo with compassionate,
holistic health care that combines medical treatment, psychosocial
support, community-reintegration activities, and access legal
services. The Congolese-led organization was founded by 2018 Nobel
Peace Prize Laureate, Dr. Denis Mukwege, and is world-renowned for
its expertise in treating sexual violence in conflict, gender-based
violence, and advancing women’s rights and social justice.

This position would support the US-based fundraising and
communications team, through the design and execution of new
development strategies to diversify its funding portfolio and
increase revenue. This strategy and resulting workplans should
target institutional funding (foundations, corporations, etc.),
government funding, and individual giving (both major and
grassroots). This position will report to the Executive Director of
the US Office and will be supported by a Grants Officer/Technical
Writer and Marketing Officer, both of whom this position will
manage. This position will also liaison directly with the DRC-based
programs and fundraising teams to ensure alignment on all funding
priorities and the development of grant proposals and reports.

This position will be responsible for outward-facing
communications, including the organization’s website, social media
channels, donor messages, search engine optimization, multichannel
campaigns, and advertising. In addition to the execution of ongoing
development strategies, this position will also play a pivotal role
in event-planning and management for fundraisers and advocacy
events.

humanitarian crisis, with over 7 million people currently displaced
by ongoing violence. Join us as the Development and

Key Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications

  • Responsible for developing an annual strategic communications
    plan, that aligns with Panzi’s mission and encompasses the
    organization’s various campaigns.
  • Oversee the development of compelling and impactful content
    across various platforms, such as social media, newsletters, press
    releases, and Panzi’s website, emphasizing storytelling and
    empowering local communities and survivors.
  • Coordinate and manage a group of on-the-ground content
    creators, photographers, and videographers.
  • Ensure consistent branding across all communication channels.
    This involves maintaining Panzi’s image and reputation through
    careful messaging and visual consistency.
  • Oversee the organization’s presence on social media platforms
    in conjunction with the Marketing Officer. This includes content
    planning, posting, engagement with followers, and analyzing social
    media metrics to gauge effectiveness.

Institutional Funding Development

  • Steward a portfolio of institutional funding partners through
    outreach over the phone, in person, and through email, in
    conjunction with the Executive Director
  • Identify potential corporate/foundation partners for
    relationship development
  • Oversee Grants Officer to track grant proposal and reporting
    deadlines and keep team on-track to meet them
  • Edit and perform final review of reports to funders, as
    needed
  • Manage and participate in the writing and compiling letters of
    inquiry, concept notes, and proposal submissions for new grants and
    grant renewals
  • Manage the development and dissemination of Impact Reports
    (quarterly) and Annual Reports

Donor Engagement

  • Design and execute an annual development plan, including all
    cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities
  • Design and execute a plan to expand individual donor base in
    the United States and abroad
  • Steward a portfolio of major donors and support the Executive
    Director to track return on investment
  • Lead strategy and execution of digital fundraising campaigns,
    including donor life-cycles
  • Plan and execute fundraising events, including in-person and
    virtual campaigns

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit
    Management, or related field, Masters preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising required
  • Proven track record of raising funds from individuals,
    corporations, or foundations through the execution of a development
    strategy
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with proven
    ability to write persuasively and with a high degree of
    professionalism
  • Excellent research, planning, and organizational skills with a
    strong attention to detail
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while
    maintaining attention to detail
  • Experience in individual donor cultivation and campaigns
  • Ability to lead others, and supervise workflows
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Passionate about social justice, gender equality, ending rape
    as a weapon of war, and committed to supporting Congolese-led
    institutions
  • Ability to work in-person in our downtown Washington, DC office
    2-3 days per week
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working proficiency in French or interest in furthering their
    professional development to learn
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Experience working in humanitarian settings and/or supporting
    non-profits focused on global health, gender equality, or related
    fields
