To safeguard our achievements to date and help prepare a favorable environment to face the daunting threat of climate change, we helped launch two partner organizations: Fund for a Better Future (FBF) and Shared Ascent Fund (SAF) to work in the intersecting areas of democracy, environment, health, and equity.

We are a core team of approximately 55 people in 10 states, with the majority based in the Sacramento, California region. We also have staff across the country working on more than 25 fiscally sponsored projects that span the globe.

Position Summary

The Development Coordinator provides holistic support as a key member of an emerging Development team by managing the fundraising- and development-related components of RLF’s recently launched Salesforce CRM including contacts and list management, gift tracking, revenue reporting and portfolio activity tracking. Working in close collaboration with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and other RLF staff., this position supports the CDO administratively as well as engaging in and supporting all stages of the donor cycle including qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.  This would include but is not limited to prospect list management, coordinating small fundraising events, proposal development, donor reporting and assisting with other development initiatives.  

This is a remote position, with travel to Sacramento, CA required quarterly. This position may be based in Bozeman, MT to enable occasional in-person meetings with the Chief Development Officer, however all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, and this position may be based anywhere in the US. This position is non-exempt, and its duties are as follows:

  • CRM Management
    • Manage fundraising- and development-related data, workflows, and processes in RLF’s Salesforce CRM to maximize database functionality, ensure data integrity, and effectively manage information about donors, donor prospects, and incoming gifts.
    • Create, update, and maintain all donor, prospect, and gift-related data in Salesforce; ensure all relevant information is entered into Salesforce in a timely manner.
    • Help inform development strategies and develop system setup and reporting.
    • Develop and generate customized dashboards, lists, and reports to view and extract relevant data from Salesforce for the CDO, Executive Team, and other staff as needed.
    • Partner with Grants Management staff to track donor proposals and reports in Salesforce.
    • Support the Director of Grants Management and the Director of Operations with other Salesforce CRM-related projects as needed to optimize the system, and tie/track incoming funds to outbound grants and contracts.
  • Research
    • Basic donor research and prospecting – identify potential donors, high-net-worth individuals, and institutional funders; oversee list development and management for potential donors.
    • Manage platform for fundraising and conduct other online research.
  • Event Coordination
    • Assist with planning small events and co-coordinate Board events with the Board Liaison.
    • Assist with planning field trips and donor tours.
    • Draft correspondence and manage event collateral.
  • Donor Stewardship
    • Acknowledge donor contributions as needed.
    • Track donor interactions and engagement activities.
    • Track and manage donor proposals and reports; provide support for these as needed.
  • Administrative Support
    • Provide general administrative support to the CDO as requested, which may include the following tasks:
      • Booking travel (flights, hotels, rental cars, etc.)
      • Internal scheduling in coordination with the Executive Assistant
      • Submitting expense reports
    • Schedule donor meetings, draft slide decks/agendas, take notes, and assist with tracking follow-up items.
  • Other
    • Undertake special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience with a nonprofit fundraising team – philanthropy, fundraising, and/or program coordination. Experience working at a public charity grantmaking organization a plus.
  • Experience with and strong interest in fundraising systems, databases and/or CRMs required; Salesforce experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management skills. Ability to follow a project through from beginning to completion.
  • Strong organizational skills, sharp attention to detail, and persistence in following through on projects.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks independently; effective management of shifting priorities and time-sensitive projects to meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills. Ability to work across a diverse group of staff, donors, and other constituents.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to quickly learn new tools and systems.
  • Interest in conservation of land, ocean, and water resources, climate change resilience, and conservation funding and policies that benefit all communities.

Compensation and Benefits

Development Coordinator starting pay is $30 per hour. We have an alternate Fridays off work schedule (employees work 40 hours one week, 32 hours the next week) and offer a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k plan with a 5% match, and generous paid time off. RLF also offers a technology allowance, student loan repayment assistance, the Calm app, mental health benefits and approximately 16 paid holidays per year.
