Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’
focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a
national and global leader in higher education. We create and
foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and
philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine;
strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors,
alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and
patients.

 
Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work
model which includes four different work modalities. This role has
a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of three days per
week. FOR HYBRID STAFF ONLY: The manager will confirm the team’s
core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in
the office. Employees who travel on university business can count
those days towards their onsite days.
 

The Development Coordinator for the Johns Hopkins School of
Nursing (JHSON)is an integral member of a highly successful
development and alumni relations (DAR) team at the top-ranked
school of nursing. This position is vital to the success of the
JHSON donor and alumni relations, and fundraising efforts.
Reporting to and providing direct support to the Associate Dean,
this position will manage the operations of the team, support DAR
events, and handle administrative functions for the Associate
Dean.

 
The Development Coordinator must be able to exercise
a high level of professionalism, judgement and tact in the
resolution of administrative issues and perform under pressure with
a high degree of accuracy, speed and diplomacy. The position
requires excellent communication, computer, and time management
skills and the ability to think independently.
 

 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Operations Management (35%)

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the donor and prospect
    database. Enter and maintain donor/alumni information updates and
    development/engagement activity.
  • Maintain working knowledge of gift processing and support as
    needed.
  • Work with the business office to reconcile accounting for gift
    funds as needed.
  • Serve as liaison to select Central DAR departments and with
    Johns Hopkins schools and divisions.
  • Serve as main point of contact for the office; answering calls
    that come into the main office telephone line and responding to
    messages in the office email account.
  • Facilitate purchase of donor gifts for milestone events.
  • Reconcile P-card expenses.

 
Leadership and Team Administrative Support
(35%)

  • Provide administrative support for the Associate Dean of
    Development and Alumni Relations, including calendar management,
    expenses, travel booking, and database updates.
  • Manage DAR Operational Plan, scheduling and agenda for team
    meetings and annual retreat.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement policy and procedural changes
    to improve operations of the office.
  • Work with vendors to process payments and ensure proper
    protocols are followed.
  • Review monthly budget report for accuracy.
  • Ensure office infrastructure (lighting, furnishings, storage
    spaces, etc.) are functioning properly, work with JHU Facilities
    for needed repairs or replacement.
  • Oversee DAR calendar to ensure office coverage, maintaining a
    current list of staff who maintain flex schedules and keeping the
    office apprised of hybrid and remote working arrangements.
  • Produce briefings, as requested.

 
Events Management and Programming Support
(30%)

  • Partner across DAR team to manage and execute DAR event
    logistics, including development of event registration forms, event
    communications (mailings, emails, webpages, etc.), rsvp tracking,
    on-site event management and event follow-up.
  • Generate and maintain the DAR events calendar and
    timelines.
  • Staff events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent
  • Three years related administrative experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to
    the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but relevant development or
    business experience is highly valued.
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to learn new software;
    comfort with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel, Word,
    and PowerPoint. Competency in formatting Word documents and
    completing mail merges. SAP experience highly preferred.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to
    manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively.
  • Ability to work as part of an effective team securing the
    success of the Development and Alumni Relations program.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekend hours as
    needed for events.
