Job Description

Job Overview:
The Development Coordinator in Tucson plays a vital role in the Development Team in Arizona. This role is responsible for expanding and strengthening engagement of local individuals, community groups, faith-based organizations, and businesses in the welcoming and integration of refugees, builds awareness of and support for forcibly displaced populations, and seeds the larger landscape for community engagement in Tucson. The primary areas of responsibility are private fundraising, as well as coordination of the volunteer and in-kind donations programs for the Tucson office.  The Development Coordinator in Tucson works closely with the Development Director in Arizona to maintain fundraising goals and donor engagement, ensure programs have adequate volunteer and intern support, and increase clients’ access to in-kind donation support.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Through an integrated fundraising model, in collaboration with the IRC headquarters’ Development and External Relations team, maintain donor cultivation, also ensure proper recognition of and ongoing engagement with local donors.
  • Work closely with the Community Engagement and Advocacy team to expand community partnerships, in particular with faith-based and community groups.
  • This role is responsible for organizing all aspects of the volunteer and intern program, including recruiting, onboarding and training new volunteers/interns, and implementing a retention strategy to ensure that all volunteers are knowledgeable and feel valued.
  • Develop and maintain complete and accurate volunteer records including volunteer policies, procedures, position descriptions, standards of conduct and, where applicable, criminal background checks.
  • Ensure volunteer hours in all categories have been captured for reporting purposes.
  • Work closely with the Operations team and programs to create and execute an in-kind acquisition strategy for soliciting in kind donations.
  • Work with program managers and staff to identify clients’ in-kind needs, coordinate donation drives to meet those needs, and work with the Operations team to ensure that donations are tracked, reported and acknowledged.
  • Coordinate the office’s raising of Match support through a combination of in-kind, volunteer time and cash donations.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee donation events, working with Development Director for in-kind and unrestricted funding, including yearly fundraising events.
  • Provide primary leadership at fairs, festivals, schools, corporations, etc. in promoting the agency.
  • Work with the Communications Coordinator to develop and maintain appropriate collateral materials for recruitment of volunteers, in-kind donations and financial support.
  • Liaise with IRC headquarters Development staff on national level in-kind and volunteer opportunities, including corporate engagement for Arizona.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Internal: Development Supervisor in Phoenix; Tucson Leadership team members
External: Community agencies, faith-based groups, corporate partners and universities/colleges, individuals
Job Requirements:
  • Combination of education and experience normally represented by a bachelor’s degree in social work or human service field
  • Experience working with diverse clients in a non-profit setting; previous experience working with refugees preferred
  • Experience in project or program management, including experience meeting deadlines, maintaining donor records, and completing timely reporting preferred
  • Comfort with establishing relationships and collaborating with local and national organizations and businesses, demonstrating strong follow through
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that is multi-cultural and multi-lingual; experience using interpreters desired
  • Highly effective communication skills, demonstrating strong partnership skills, emotional intelligence, and situational awareness
  • Highly adaptable and flexible self-starter with ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others, juggle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English; written and spoken
Working Environment:
  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require some weekend and/or evening work.
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
