Development Director

Position type: Part-time; 20-25 hours per week (hybrid after 60 days)

Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and seasoned Development professional to join our team in a part-time capacity. This role is an ideal match for someone who possesses a deep-rooted passion for the synergy between economic development and the arts. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the Indianapolis civic, cultural, and economic landscapes. They should be well-versed in the dynamics of the state’s key industries and familiar with the major players and organizations driving arts, culture, and economic development in the region. A passion for problem-solving and a keen awareness of the interplay between corporate, community, and civic entities in shaping Indianapolis’s growth and development are essential. The candidate will bring to the table a robust background in donor cultivation and sales, along with a well-established network in the philanthropic and business communities of Central Indiana.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Executive Director and the Board, playing a pivotal role in shaping our fundraising strategies and initiatives. Your collaboration with these key leaders will be essential in driving our mission forward.

The position requires your presence at the PATTERN HQ located in the Stutz building in downtown Indianapolis, especially during the initial phase of your tenure. Our on-site engagement plays a pivotal role in building robust team dynamics and getting a real-time sense of our operations. Nevertheless, we acknowledge the importance of flexibility. Therefore, once you’ve comfortably integrated into your role and established a cohesive workflow with the team, we offer the option of a hybrid schedule to balance in-office collaboration with remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to broaden our donor base and enhance donor engagement.
• Mentor and direct a Development Fellow in execution of development-related administrative tasks
• Utilize existing relationships and forge new ones with potential donors, corporate sponsors, and community leaders to support PATTERN’s diverse initiatives.
• Help plan fundraising events and campaigns with our event team to effectively showcase the impact of our work in the creative sector.
• Collaborate with our marketing team to craft compelling fundraising materials and communication strategies that highlight the uniqueness of PATTERN’s projects.
• Nurture ongoing relationships with our donors through regular updates, appreciation events, and personalized outreach.
• Work closely with our program team to gain an in-depth understanding of our projects and impact areas, effectively communicating these to our donor base and stakeholders.
• Monitor and report on fundraising progress, leveraging data to refine and adapt strategies for optimal results.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record in donor cultivation and relationship management.
• Demonstrated success in fundraising and a strong ability to build meaningful connections.
• Familiarity with Bloomerang donor management platform a plus.
• Background in sales or a related field, showcasing excellent persuasion and negotiation skills.
• Deep understanding of the Central Indiana economic and workforce development landscape, with a special emphasis on the creative industries.
• A genuine appreciation for the arts and a grasp of their significance in community and economic development.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Must have sense of humor and be exceptionally curious about the world.
• Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and work independently.
• A degree or additional certifications in fundraising or nonprofit management are a plus.

Compensation: The position offers a starting salary of $65,000 per year. In addition to the base salary, this role includes a performance-based incentive structure. These incentives are directly tied to the achievement of specific fundraising goals and targets. The more successful the fundraising efforts, the greater the potential for additional compensation.
