The Development Director is
responsible for strategizing, planning, and executing a fundraising
program that generates over one million dollars in unrestricted
revenue. La Clínica’s revenue from contributions is recognized by
the Executive team and Board of Directors as an area for thoughtful
resource investment and growth.

In this role, the Development Director plays a key leadership
role in La Clínica’s sustainability and strategic growth. The
Development Director will oversee day-to-day operations of the
fundraising office including staff supervision for gift processing,
acknowledgements, events, and annual and corporate giving while
playing an active role in securing funds.

As a member of the organization’s leadership team the
Development Director works closely with the leadership team
identifying opportunities and developing strategies to sustainably
grow revenue through institutional, individual, and corporate
strategies that meet La Clínica’s priority funding needs. Core
programs and services include patient services, mental health and
behavioral health services, health equity, prevention and
navigation for chronic illnesses, LGBTQ health, sexual health,
reproductive justice, health equity and language access, among
others.

The Director will have deputy functions in the absence of the
Chief Development Officer and will have significant responsibility
for oversight and accountability of the department’s budget and
management.

Primary Relationships:

The Director reports to the Chief Development Officer and will
work in partnership with the leadership team, board of directors,
and internal and external stakeholders. The Development office
includes Grants and Funded Contracts, Fundraising, and
Communications, all of whom work in close collaboration to raise
more than 10 million or nearly 60% of the organization’s
operational budget. The Development office is staffed by nine
professionals with a growth trajectory of 12 total staff by the end
of 2024.

 Qualifications:

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • 7+ years of professional fundraising experience; 3+ years of
    management or leading a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and
    work experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting revenue goals.
  • Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent
    professionalism in working with individuals at all levels both
    internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff and
    delegate effectively to achieve objectives and deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication
    skills;
  • Strong group facilitation and training experience.
  • Data management and CRM experience.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Suite of Programs, with high competency in
    Excel.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with
    integrity.
  • Ability to complete some work outside of traditional business
    hours; ability to travel to off-site venues for meetings and
    events, primarily in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operational oversight and administration of
    our individual donors and corporate partners that make up an annual
    revenue stream of $1.3million.
  • Assist with building annual fundraising plan and budgeting
    processes; including analysis of fundraising strategies to model
    for increased revenue returns. Guide and advise on funding
    potential through various activities that are based on historical
    trends, data, and current environment.
  • Set annual fundraising goals and metrics. Monitor and track
    revenue projections to actuals and other fundraising metrics;
    regularly report to CDO and leadership where adjustments are needed
    to meet quarterly and annual goals.
  • Develop and implement strategic engagement and solicitation
    strategies for both existing donors and prospects. Inclusive of
    virtual and in-person meetings, gatherings, and tours.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of individual and corporate
    donors including prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and
    stewardship resulting in new and increased giving.
  • Design, leverage, and implement campaigns and strategies to
    increase revenue through targeted digital/direct fundraising,
    strategic corporate partnerships, major/high net impact investors,
    planned giving, and special events.
  • Collaborate closely with the CDO, Senior Design Specialist, and
    key staff to design and develop unified communications that meet
    organizational goals. Work closely with Communications Director
    when hired in 2024.
  • Lead planning and execution of signature event(s) to meet
    agreed fundraising outcomes, including effective engagement of
    volunteers, board members, and strategic stakeholders and ownership
    of sponsorship solicitation.
  • Execute an acquisition strategy within current activities to
    build pipeline of new funder prospects. Oversee prospect screening
    and moves management strategy.
  • Design and implement a recruitment strategy and the
    administration of La Clínica’s monthly sustainer program: Amig@s
    del Pueblo.
  • Serve as the Fundraising team’s primary liaison with finance
    and compliance to ensure donor policies, processes and procedures
    are maintained, updated, and adhered to.
  • Establish and evaluate processes, tools, and systems to ensure
    high performance, quality, and efficiency of work across the unit
    and teams.
  • Draft impact-driven funding cases, proposals, appeal letters
    and donor communications that represent the key funding priority
    areas and vision, mission, and values of La Clínica. Oversees
    quality of fundraising materials and communications ensuring
    alignment with priorities, audience, and on point with key
    strategies.
  • Support interdepartmental collaboration, and contribute to a
    culture of trust, transparency, teamwork, and excellence under the
    ethos that everyone is a fundraiser.
  • Plan for future revenue in collaboration with
    cross-departmental leadership, inclusive of resource and staffing
    needs to operationalize 10-year strategic plan.
  • Act as a spokesperson for La Clínica at external events and
    speaking engagements as needed; ability to articulate organization
    functions, priorities, and areas of need with conviction.
  • Conduct administrative functions such as scheduling,
    timesheets, invoices, credit card reconciliation, and other ad hoc
    duties, as necessary.
  • Monitor fundraising spending and contract agreements in line
    with the approved annual budget.
  • Adhere to a strict code of confidentiality.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise three full-time Development staff: Development
    Operations and Data Manager, Donor Relations Officer, and Community
    Engagement Specialist (TBH) in support of meeting (exceeding)
    annual fundraising goals.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and train approved fundraising
    positions.
  • Make staffing and resource investment recommendations for the
    fundraising unit to meet the evolving needs of the organization and
    align with external funding trends.
  • Procure and oversee external Contractors, as needed, to support
    the Development unit.
  • Provide regular feedback and constructive and timely annual
    performance evaluations.
  • Handle discipline, performance plans, and termination of
    employees in accordance with company policy.
