Director)

NY Renews, a multi-sector statewide climate, jobs, and justice
coalition is seeking a Development Lead (Development Director).

 

About NY Renews

NY Renews,
the force behind the nation’s most progressive climate law, the
Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), is mapping
a path to a just, clean energy economy in New York State. NY
Renews’ almost 400 member organizations bring together the
priorities and energy of social, economic and environmental justice
groups, environmental organizations, labor unions, public health,
faith, youth and policy advocacy organizations representing every
region of New York. We are working to ramp up renewable energy,
generate thousands of new, well-paying jobs, and invest in
communities that are burdened by pollution and/or on the frontlines
of the climate crisis. 

NY Renews is directed by a Steering
Committee
of representatives from 18 organizations. We have
nine full-time staff members. Our values are reflected in our

Position Overview 

NY Renews’ Development Director develops and implements annual
and long-term strategies to sustain and grow our circle of
foundation supporters and individual donors. The Development
Director reports to the Coalition Coordinator/Executive Director,
supervises a Donor Organizer, and collaborates with members of NY
Renews’ Steering Committee and Fundraising Committee to coordinate
coalition fundraising efforts.

The person in this position will cultivate and maintain strong
relationships with foundations and major individual donors towards
an annual coalition budget of approximately $3 million annually,
half of which is regranted to member organizations. They will also
collaborate closely with coalition member organization leaders, and
support revenue abundance for the coalition and its members.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with NY Renews Fundraising Committee, Steering
    Committee and other members of NY Renews staff to ensure successful
    fundraising and strategic growth.
  • Develop and implement annual and long-term strategies to
    support the coalition’s activities in full, with an emphasis on
    general operating support fundraising.
  • In partnership with Fundraising Committee co-chairs and donor
    organizer, coordinate and facilitate monthly meetings of the
    fundraising committee and with NY Renews foundation partners.
  • Prepare, coordinate preparation of, and submit grant proposals
    to foundations, approximately 20 annually.
  • Prepare, coordinate preparation of, and submit narrative and
    budget reports to foundations, approximately 20 annually.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships to increase donations from
    our individual donor community of 200+ grassroots donors, monthly
    sustainers, and major donors.
  • Work closely with our fiscal sponsor Tides and NY Renews
    operations director to ensure funds are being received, processed,
    and tracked.
  • Oversee foundation and donor records, tracking and database,
    utilizing data to make decisions and develop strategy.
  • Coach and support staff and Steering Committee members to
    engage in fundraising conversations and participate in fundraising
    events.
  • In partnership with member leaders, represent NY Renews in
    meetings with major stakeholders, current funders, and potential
    supporters.
  • Ensure all NY Renews Steering Committee members and staff are
    aware of funding being sought and secured, and progress towards
    annual fundraising goals.
  • Work with fundraising committee, donor organizer, and staff
    team to create, plan, and host one to three small to medium donor
    events annually.
  • Work with the fundraising committee, donor organizer, and staff
    team to organize annual briefings for foundation
    representatives.
  • Work with fundraising committee and donor organizer to offer
    capacity building support to NY Renews member organizations, such
    as training and monthly office hours.
  • Fundraise in alignment with NY Renews’ values and fundraising
    principles.

 

Qualifications 

  • Strong alignment with NY Renews values and mission: a strong
    racial justice lens; commitment to social, economic, racial, and
    climate justice.
  • Experience as a member of, or working with, communities
    impacted by climate change, racial injustice, and economic
    inequality.
  • A 7+ year track record of success in fundraising, donor
    cultivation, and organizational development within social justice,
    racial justice, or climate justice organizations.
  • Experience creating a strategic plan for development, with
    individual and foundation donor solicitations, revenue projections
    and pathways, online and in-person fundraising.
  • Knowledge of environmental justice issues and policies.
  • Experience managing a team and across teams.
  • Creative, energetic, self-motivated and well
    organized.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, oral communication
    skills.
  • Experience working in coalitions is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ActBlue, Action Network, Canva, Google platform is
    a plus.
  • Strong preference for New York State residency.

 

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position starts at $82,500 and based
on modifying factors, is subject to increases. This is a full time,
exempt salaried, and remote position.

NY Renews provides employees 100% health and dental insurance
and 80% of costs for family coverage, along with a generous paid
time off, family leave, holiday package for staff over 30
hours/week, and phone/internet reimbursement.
