Job Description: Development Director

 

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW)
seeks an experienced, results-driven, organized,  passionate
Development Director to join our team and help us secure our
democracy. This position is a unique opportunity to be on the
frontlines of the fight for a more ethical, equitable and
accountable government, while working alongside smart, dedicated
and kind people. 

As a leading nonpartisan nonprofit government watchdog, CREW is
committed to defending our democratic institutions, rooting out
government corruption and fighting the influence of money in
politics through legal action and communications grounded in
research.

Reporting to the President and CEO and as part of the
organization’s leadership team, the Development Director will help
craft and lead the implementation of a fundraising strategic and
operational plan to secure a diversified portfolio of donors. 
The Development Director will be responsible for overseeing all
aspects of the plan, including prospecting, cultivating, soliciting
and stewarding. CREW does not accept government funding. 

Responsibilities:

 

Organizational and Department
Leadership 

    Develop, oversee and implement a
    comprehensive fundraising plan with clear goals focused on
    cultivating and stewarding major individual donors, foundations and
    planned gifts.
    Guide and support the senior
    leadership team and Board of Directors in their fundraising
    efforts.
    Participate in the annual budget
    development process by estimating revenue based on past and
    potential support.
    Lead the fundraising team, including
    supervising and coaching the Development Associate, making
    recommendations for fundraising team expansion as required and
    supervising any additional fundraising hires.

 

Fundraising

    Monitor and analyze fundraising data
    and make recommendations for new strategies and tactics in response
    to changing circumstances and unexpected opportunities.
    Work with the Development Associate
    to conduct research and identify new funding prospects and ensure
    the maintenance of  an accurate calendar of grant processes,
    due dates, and reporting requirements.
    Serve as the main point of contact
    for current and prospective foundation supporters as
    appropriate.
    Serve as a primary point of contact
    for current and prospective major donors as appropriate.
    Develop persuasive and compelling
    donor-focused materials, including marketing documents,
    acknowledgement letters, fundraising emails and other
    correspondence.
    Plan and execute in-person and
    virtual fundraising events and briefings in Washington, D.C., and
    other cities around the country.
    Work with the digital team to
    maintain donor databases on outreach and giving history and
    coordinate on mid-level and online donor strategy.
    Coordinate with the finance team to
    ensure accurate receipt, recording, and acknowledgement of all
    gifts.

 

Qualifications:

 

    Minimum 7 years senior-level
    fundraising experience, preferably in non-profit or campaign
    fundraising.
    Proven track record of securing major
    gifts, including individual donors and foundation grants.
    Experience with securing planned
    gifts preferred.
    Enthusiasm for, and comfort with,
    contacting and interacting with donors and prospects.
    Experience writing successful grant
    proposals and reports.
    Senior management or leadership
    experience in fundraising.
    Strong organizational,
    time-management and problem-solving skills.
    Experience planning large and small
    fundraising events.
    Database management experience.
    Demonstrated initiative to identify
    opportunities and needs, take charge of tasks and get things done
    in an exciting, fast-paced environment.
    Excellent interpersonal skills and
    sound judgment, including the ability to work effectively with
    outside consultants as necessary.
    The position is based in Washington,
    D.C., but will be hybrid with employees splitting their time
    between working at home and working in the office.

 

Compensation

Extensive and competitive benefits package including generous

on day one. Salary range $100k-$160k.
