Description
ITD seeks a Development Manager to advance new
strategies for expanding and diversifying its revenue and improving
visibility and understanding of ITD among stakeholders and
prospective supporters. This in-person position is new to ITD and
has been created by its leadership team and board of directors to
advance their strategic goal of securing new funding streams such
as grants from private foundations, support from individual donors,
and new earned revenue opportunities.

Manager will be a core member of this team. This
position reports to the ITD Executive Director.
Who we are:
The Institute for Training and Development (ITD) is a leading
internationally focused nonprofit organization based in Amherst,
Massachusetts. ITD specializes in designing and implementing
tailor-made courses, training programs, internship programs, and
exchanges for NGO leaders, government officials, educators,
students, businesspeople, community leaders, and others around the
world. Since its founding in 1985, ITD has provided training for
over 6,000 participants from more than 100 countries through
funding from the U.S. Department of State, individual Fulbright
Commissions, USAID, World Bank, FAO, UNDP, UNICEF, Peace Corps,
private universities, and foreign governments.
Our team works to develop and implement engaging,
cross-cultural, educational programs pertaining to such themes as
economic empowerment, rule of law, civic engagement, climate
change, U.S. history and culture, business and entrepreneurship,
global migration, and education. Our staff members are our most
critical resource, ensuring that our programs are expertly
promoted, organized, and implemented, as well as enhancing
participants’ program experience through direct support during
stateside and overseas programs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited
to:

Resource Development Research and
Planning:
-
Research new public grant sources,
not currently used by ITD, that will advance its goals and
mission.
Identify private foundations,
including corporate foundations, family foundations and community
foundations that are well matched to ITD’s mission and needs.
Identify and assess strategies to
raise operating support from individuals and private sector
organizations such as mail appeals, online giving, corporate
sponsorships, and fundraising events.
Research new options for earned
revenue including new partnerships with higher education
institutions abroad.
Develop work plans for advancing
these goals.
Grant writing:

Support program staff in developing
competitive proposals to the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of
Educational and Cultural Affairs and other funding sources that
regularly support ITD programs.
Partner with program staff in the
development of grant applications to new federal grant sources
identified by the Development Manager and
prioritized in conjunction with the Executive Director.
Lead in the development of grant
applications to prospective private foundations that have been
identified by the Development Manager and
prioritized in conjunction with the Executive Director.

Securing Private Support:
-
Create, prioritize and execute
development tactics for individual and private support including,
but not limited to, mail appeals, online giving, corporate
sponsorships, and fundraising events.
Evaluate the effectiveness and cost
benefits of tactics implemented.
Marketing and
Communication:
-
Develop and initiate communication
strategies that convey the impact of ITD’s work.
Use e-newsletters, blogs or other
electronic communication tools to share and highlight the stories,
experiences and professional growth of participants/alumni
resulting from their participation in ITD programs.
Hone the “case for support” used to
solicit support and raise funds.
Represent ITD at professional
conferences and professional associations with the goal of
elevating its profile and building strategic relationships.
Work with the Media and Information
Technology Specialist to maintain and strengthen ITD’s
website.
Stakeholder Engagement:

Strengthen and formalize mechanisms
for deep and lasting engagement of Alumni.
Implement strategies for regular
engagement of stakeholders including host families, program
presenters, host institutions, vendors, home country institutions
and governments, with the goal of strengthening relationships and
stewarding options for financial support.
Partnership Building
-
Work with ITD leadership and board to
identify organizational partners and develop strategic
relationships that will enhance its effectiveness and elevate its
long term viability.
Earned Revenue
-
Work with ITD leadership and board to
evaluate current earned revenue tactics.
Research and propose new/additional
earned revenue strategies.
Required Qualities and Experience:
-
A minimum of five years’ experience
in areas of resource development/fundraising, non-profit
management, international development, and/or marketing.
A deep passion for intercultural
dialog, international training, education and exchange.
Excellent writing, communication, and
active listening skills.
Ability to speak and write
persuasively.
Computer technology skills that
include web development (WordPress preferred), CRM
development/management, desktop publishing, and Microsoft Office
Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Exceptional organizational
abilities.

Preferred Qualities and Experience:

High proficiency in a language other
than English
Personal/professional experience with
international/cultural exchange programming.
Advanced degree/training in a
relevant field (philanthropy, nonprofit management, global affairs,
education)
Compensation:
Annual salary of $65,000 to $75,000 based on prior experience,
skills and expertise, as well as a competitive benefit package that
includes paid time off, professional development opportunities,
employer health insurance contribution, and retirement
contribution.
