Job descriptionYour world of expertiseYou will join an area of Technology responsible for delivering and supporting Systems / Services to the Transport Industry. The team’s current area of focus is delivering data services to the Aviation Industry. As one of two World Area Forecast Centres, we are responsible for forecasting upper air winds, temperatures and significant weather hazards to enhance safety and identify potential delays. We are an Agile team and build solutions using Python and AWS cloud computing services. You will be working in the team responsible for supporting our operational live services.Your key duties

  • Transform technical requirements into DevOps processes
  • Build complex stories without additional support
  • Manage live test environments
  • Identify and resolve issues that are preventing delivery
  • Manage stakeholder and customer expectations
  • Respond to live software incidents
  • Coach and mentor more junior colleagues

We may operate an on-call roster to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.Person specificationEssential Criteria, skills and experience: * Programming and build (software engineering). Collaborate with others when necessary to review specifications. Use the agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using the right standards and tools. Use of Language – Python (We live and breathe it)

As a DevOps Engineer you will need to evidence DevOps Engineer DDaT skill levels applicable to your postBenefitsAlongside your salary of £33,794, Met Office contributes £9,124 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.Why join usOur work is life-changing, often life-saving and always life-enhancing.   • £33,794 base pay
  • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%.
  • Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA): you will be paid £2,200 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until March 2026 in your monthly pay.
  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
