Purpose of the Role

This role sits within the new NSW Multicultural DFSV Service. The role is responsible for developing primary prevention approaches and early intervention models for multicultural communities. It works with communities to better understand Domestic Family and Sexual Violence and the drivers of DFSV. Models are developed, implemented, and rolled out. The overall aim is to build capacity in communities to respond to and prevent DFSV.

As a specialist in this role, you will play a crucial role in our organisation’s efforts to address domestic family violence at its roots. If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Domestic Family Violence Primary Prevention and Early Intervention Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with multicultural communities and create connections to enable dialogue, creategoodwill to address DFSV and gender equality issue and undertake educational activities
  • Develop or implement models to enhance the responses to DFSV within communities and providereferral pathways to services
  • Participate in community of practice(s) to raise the needs of multicultural communities and explain barriers and practices that need to be considered to effectively work with communities
  • Advocate for change in a collaborative spirit and build networks in the communities
  • Advocate for service improvement, primary prevention and early intervention approaches and issues that are brought to your attention from communities and share them in relevant fora
  • Bring any needs and observations to the attention of the team so that collective responsescan be developed but also to ensure that trends are captured formally
  • Contribute to monthly reporting to enhance the team’s and SSI’s understanding of trends incommunities and the observations made
  • Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.

Essential Criteria

  • Social science, social work or related qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience working with multicultural and multifaith communities
  • Community development background
  • Background of working within a gender equity framework and/or of DFSV.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to convey concepts in simple language and work with interpreters
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
  • Multicultural background or extensive experience working within communities
  • Background in working in the domestic, family and sexual violence fields is DESIRABLE
  • Consideration of the needs of children and youth in communities is DESIRABLE
  • Bilingual/bicultural is DESIRABLE
