Purpose of the Role

This role sits within the new NSW Multicultural DFSV Service. The role is responsible forcapacity building of other services to better respond to victim survivors from multicultural communities subjected to DFSV. It works with multicultural services to better understand the DFSV sector and negotiate improved collaboration. Capacity building can occur via training, hands on support with addressing systemic issues, tools to enhance service delivery and development of joint projects to increase reciprocal understanding of sectors.

In this role, you will play a key role in enhancing the response to domestic family violence by empowering individuals and organisations with the tools and resources they need to support survivors and prevent violence.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with service providers to understand their needs working with multicultural communities or working with DFSV services.
  • Develop or source relevant training to offer to services to enhance trauma informed targeted skills or knowledge development. Training may be informal as well.
  • Maintain a community of practice to share good practice and elevate research to practice evidence-based working
  • Advocate for change within sectors and services in a collaborative spirit
  • Develop approaches designed for improved service delivery and roll out the change models you want to see in place
  • Respond to needs for service improvement and issues that are brought to your attention that may require pro-active advice
  • Bring any needs and observations to the attention of the team so that collective responses can be developed but also to ensure that trends are captured formally
  • Contribute to monthly reporting to enhance the team’s and SSI’s understanding of service and training needs
  • Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.

Essential Criteria

  • Social science, social work or related qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Experience providing training, capacity building sessions to frontline staff, case workers from multicultural and multifaith backgrounds and DFSV services
  • Background in working in the domestic, family and sexual violence fields
  • Skills in providing trauma informed, culturally responsive and evidence informed training and response models
  • High level written and verbal communication
  • Strong analytical skills supported by solid professional judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
  • Multicultural background or extensive experience working in multicultural services
  • Drivers Licence, ability to travel to regional areas if needed
  • Working with children or considering children’s needs in service delivery is DESIRABLE
  • Bilingual/bicultural is DESIRABLE
