Digital Communications Manager

Position Description: The Digital Communications Manager advances the mission of The Wildlife Society by developing, editing, and publishing social and digital media content. Working with TWS staff, the Digital Communications Manager will activate and execute creative digital marketing needs to increase visibility for the Society through TWS’ various communications channels. This will include promoting TWS programs and initiatives and highlighting TWS organization units and members. In addition, the Digital Content Manager will deliver content that aligns with the Society’s goals of advancing science-based management and conservation of wildlife populations and their habitat. 

Duties

• Collaborates with TWS staff to set goals, troubleshoot and execute campaigns, following the strategic plan goals and objectives.
• Designs and implements social and digital media strategies aligning with TWS’ Strategic Plan priorities and goals.
• Manages TWS social media platforms, including development of original, daily content (e.g. original text, photos, videos and news).
• Works with multiple media types, including programmatic audio, video, Display Ads and social media platforms.
• Simultaneously manages various media campaigns from ideation to completion.
• Performs research on current benchmark trends and audience preferences.
• Analyzes short and long-term impacts of a media campaigns.
• Remains up-to-date with the latest digital technologies and social media trends.
• Assesses and selects the best media types and programmatic platforms for different campaigns and messaging.
• Develops and presents robust digital media plans based on client goals and company objectives.
• Assists with creating and managing website content and updates.
• Assists with development of regular email communications to TWS membership.
• Shares content across multiple media channels and monitors media analytics and insights.
• Other duties as assigned by the CEO or Communications Managing Editor.

Qualifications

Education/Knowledge: Degree in journalism, communications or a related field preferred. Knowledge of or coursework or degree in natural resources, wildlife science, conservation or related field desired.

Experience: At least three years’ experience as social or digital media manager. Background in both wildlife science or conservation and writing/communications is preferred. Editing experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

• Proven work experience as a social media manager.
• Ability to create original, creative text, image and video content, managing posts and responding to followers.
• Ability to translate complex science into readable and engaging content for social and digital platforms.
• Proficient computer and software skills (Microsoft, Adobe, Google Analytics, HubSpot, and other related programs).
• Familiarity with website design and editing (WordPress).
• Excellent research, analytical, communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage several concurrent tasks, meet deadlines, and establish clear priorities to deliver desired results.
• Self-motivated, strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to edit/produce podcasts, including audio editing, desired.

Employment Classification: Full-time, exempt

Location and Compensation
This full-time position is available to qualified candidates working remotely. Occasional travel will be required. The Wildlife Society offers a flexible work schedule, competitive benefits package, and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience ($45,000-65,000, annually).
