The Role

The purpose of the Digital Engagement Specialist is to provide advanced digital expertise to the Funding and Partnerships team, playing a crucial role in strategising, designing and delivering appeals, campaigns, virtual events, online lead generation and other digital initiatives designed to achieve fundraising revenue targets.

The role involves creative development, curation and scheduling of a range of online fundraising campaigns, including the creation of content for automated and responsive eDM journeys, webpages, social media posts, SMS communications, graphics and videos. A key element of the role is to provide creative and strategic support to fundraising projects which are delivered on digital platforms, and to analyse and report on their success. The role also supports the internal communications function by providing appropriate content on Fundraising-driven initiatives for publishing on the BDI intranet and the internal communications newsletter (SCAN).

Duties & Responsibilities

Digital Fundraising

  • Provide digital support and expertise to corporate partnerships, community fundraising, major donors, trusts and foundations, bequests, cash donors and regular giving projects to help achieve revenue targets.
  • Manage the assignment of prioritisation of digital resourcing to support campaigns in a timely manner.
  • Support the delivery of online fundraising appeals, virtual events, SMS and lead generation campaigns from planning through to execution.
  • Provide advice and strategic support to the delivery of social media fundraising campaigns for BDI on social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram and Youtube.
  • Liaise with external agencies to optimise fundraising opportunities through social media acquisition campaigns, SEM and SEO, including always-on fundraising campaigns through Google AdWords grant.

Content

  • Create engaging digital content, including eDMs, SMS, newsletters, webpages and articles, social media posts and simple graphics and videos to support fundraising objectives.
  • Working with the Marketing and Communications (M&C) directorate, facilitate the revision of content and approval of use of Black Dog Institute brand assets in line with brand guidelines for community fundraisers, corporate partners and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Centralise and organise digital content, including graphics, images, videos, key statistics, boilerplate copy and other digital fundraising resources.

Internal Communication and Reporting

  • Be the primary point of contact between the F&P and M&C directorates.
  • Engender support for fundraising activities across BDI by keeping other departments updated about fundraising campaigns and initiatives via the fundraising page on the intranet, SCAN internal newsletter and other forums.

Supporter Care and Retention

  • Execute the effective ideation, strategy development and delivery of digital supporter retention strategies.
  • Provide supporter care and public information for fundraising and donor enquiries.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of supporter surveys.
  • Undertake community management of fundraising campaigns on social media channels as needed.

Skills & Experience Required

  1. Tertiary qualifications in digital marketing/communications or comparable professional experience
  2. Experience leading a customer service-focused team to meet revenue goals
  3. 4 – 5 years’ hands-on experience in a digital marketing, fundraising or customer service management role, with demonstrated delivery of analytical and creative projects
  4. Proven experience in generating revenue and managing budgets to optimise return on investment in marketing or customer retention campaigns, preferably in a fundraising context
  5. Strong understanding of how impactful brand and messaging can drive effective marketing campaigns on digital channels such as through social media, email marketing and audio visual content
  6. Experience leveraging CRMs (preferably Raisers Edge/NXT) to draw and act upon strategic customer insights
