Position Summary
This dynamic position will leverage digital marketing and communications strategies to promote a positive institutional image with identified stakeholders in the St. Louis region. Through adept content development and curation across social media, the website, newsletters, and similar platforms, this role strengthens WashU’s continuous dialogue with community stakeholders and is critical to WashU’s ability to share the impact it makes in partnership with community with diverse audiences. Additionally, this role will strategically activate WashU sponsorships in collaboration with community organizations and university leaders, and support the marketing and communications needs of the St. Louis Initiatives team.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Digital Marketing and Engagement Strategy

  • Comprehensive Strategy Development: Formulates and executes multifaceted digital marketing strategies that are closely aligned with the organization’s overarching mission and goals. This involves thorough planning of campaigns, from conceptualization to execution, ensuring they resonate with the target audience.
  • Social Media Marketing: Develops and executes social media strategies across platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and others. Creates engaging content tailored for each platform, fostering community engagement and amplifying the St. Louis Initiatives’ presence across social channels.
  • Influencer Collaboration Strategy: Develops and implements a comprehensive strategy to collaborate with influencers, leveraging their reach and impact to promote St. Louis Initiatives’ content across various platforms. Cultivates partnerships with influencers aligned with the organization’s values and goals.
  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly monitors the performance of digital marketing initiatives, employing analytics tools to assess key metrics. Adjusts strategies in response to real-time data insights, ensuring ongoing optimization for maximum impact.
  • Emerging Trends Identification: Stays abreast of emerging trends and technologies in the digital marketing landscape. Proactively incorporates innovative approaches to keep the organization at the forefront of industry developments.

Content Creation and Curation

  • Multimedia Content Creation: Develops compelling and shareable content in various formats, with a particular emphasis on video content. Crafts narratives and visuals that foster community engagement across the university and resonate with key audiences and influencers.
  • Newsletter Management: Creates and manages engaging newsletters that serve as a vital communication channel to keep key audiences informed about St. Louis initiatives. Ensures the content is relevant, informative, and aligned with the organization’s messaging.
  • Curate Content from University Resources: Identifies and curates relevant content from diverse resources across the university. Collaborates with various departments and stakeholders to gather valuable insights, research findings, and noteworthy achievements, integrating them into the overall content strategy.

Digital Platform Management

  • Website Oversight: Manages the ongoing development, update, and maintenance of the St. Louis Initiatives website. Ensures the website reflects the latest information, maintains user-friendly navigation, and aligns with the organization’s branding and goals.
  • Newsletter Coordination: Oversees the St. Louis Initiatives newsletter, managing content, distribution, and contact lists. Ensures newsletters are effectively reaching the intended audience and contributing to overall engagement.

Sponsorship Activation

  • Strategic Collaboration: Collaborates with cross-functional teams identify and vet sponsorships that align with the brand, values and goals of WashU and the St. Louis initiative. Ensure that partnerships contribute positively to the organization’s reputation and mission.
  • Activation Planning: Develops and executes detailed activation plans for sponsorships to maximize their impact. Ensures that activations align with the brand, resonate with the target audience, and deliver a positive return on investment.

Performance Analytics

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Implements data-driven decision-making processes by utilizing analytics tools to measure and assess the performance of digital and social media campaigns. Interprets data insights to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Reporting and Recommendations: Provides regular reports and actionable insights to the Senior Advisor, St. Louis Initiatives. Recommends optimizations and improvements based on performance analytics, contributing to continuous refinement of digital strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of five years of related work experience.
  • Experience in developing video content.
  • Experience in graphic design and visual communication.
  • Experience in planning and prioritization of strategic organizational objectives. 
  • Experience in developing and executing marketing and communication plans to achieve objectives.
  • Expert knowledge of social media channels, content development, basic video editing,  photography, Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, Emma, Salesforce, excellent written and visual communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct others and manage resources.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Possesses advanced analytical skills and the ability to assess pertinent data and develop a framework for effective and practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with varying degrees of pressure.
  • Possesses a strong work ethic and determination; must be detail-oriented.
  • Strongly motivated individual driven by curiosity and challenge.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems, to integrate information from multiple sources, to utilize creative thinking, and to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness. 
  • Experience in digital marketing, social media management, content creation, website management, and/or marketing for complex organizations.
  • Knowledge of the strategies and best practices for sophisticated, targeted, and creative community-building and engagement via digital marketing.
  • Demonstrated appreciation for academic culture and mission.
  • Demonstrates commitment to regional community.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a marketing discipline or other related area such as business, journalism, or digital communications; minimum of eight years of work experience in online marketing; background in health care a plus; advanced work experience and knowledge in a broad range of digital applications, web-based IT programs and digital media opportunities, as well as internet, intranet, and digital asset management systems.

Salary Range
$52,000.00 – $88,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
