UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. Yes, we’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community; a community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter.

This role sits in the Centre for Ideas , a department which presents a thought-provoking program of live events, digital events, and digital content – podcasts, videos, animations, and more. The program brings the globe’s leading thinkers to UNSW Sydney and presents UNSW to the world. Over the last few years, speakers have included former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, artificial intelligence expert Toby Walsh, leading epidemiologist Dr Anthony S Fauci, and activist Grace Tame, along with partnerships with the Sydney Writers’ Festival and the Festival of Dangerous Ideas.

Why Your Role Matters
As the Digital Marketing Officer for the Centre of Ideas, you will be developing and delivering the marketing campaigns that connect the Centre of Ideas program to its audiences and ensures continued engagement.

This role uses compelling content across subjects such as climate change, technological disruption and global politics to create engaging campaigns across a variety of digital platforms that attract our existing audiences and build further engagement, further promoting UNSW as a thought-provoking leader in these areas.

Reporting to the Head of Centre of Ideas, you will be joining a passionate team of professionals that make this program happen. Your day-to-day responsibilities would include:

  • Creating and implementing engaging audience-centered marketing and communications strategies across event and content lifecycles including:
    • Email marketing – newsletters and ecomms
    • Website content development – managing digital infrastructure of the  Centre for Ideas website, UNSW Events website, Eventbrite and other digital platforms
    • Social media presence – Facebook, Instagram and X and others.
  • Creating and delivering marketing campaigns for various channels and platforms.
  • Tracking audience insights and engagement to improve future campaigns and strategies.
  • Liaising with copywriters and graphic designers to communicate the Centre for Ideas vision and to produce engaging assets.
  • Attending Centre of Ideas events (scheduled outside of normal working hours).

Who You Are
The role would particularly suit a candidate with a passion for the arts with an events marketing background, alongside the following skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing marketing campaigns, customer relationship management and future trends in events or arts (preferable).
  • Sound understanding of digital social media communication strategies and managing digital platforms.
  • Knowledge of best practice digital content including analytics.
  • Ability to reach various audiences with an effective writing style and ability to deliver high-impact messaging.
  • A collaborative mindset and superior interpersonal skills with the ability to build professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage operational budgets effectively.
  • Solid time management and organisational skills including working to multiple and competing deadlines.
  • An understanding of relevant aspects of marketing, publicity, communication and customer relationship management. Graphic Design skills are desirable.
