WWF’s diversity-focused internship program, BRIDGE, aims to recruit professionals early in their careers who bring fresh thinking and innovation to the environmental and conservation sector and are well positioned to develop into the next generation of leaders. Our mission is to increase exposure of students from underrepresented populations to conservation and environmental careers, provide professional development opportunities, reduce the barriers to attracting a diverse pool of internship candidates, and develop a pipeline for future WWF hires from underrepresented populations.

 

Position Summary

Gain valuable experience in digital marketing while supporting one of the world’s leading conservation organizations. The digital marketing intern will be crucial in integrating our SMS channel as a key component of our comprehensive communication strategy, with the primary goals to achieve a 20% increase in ROI and a 15% rise in donations in FY25. They will aid in conducting market research in best practices and strategies for nonprofit SMS, as well as benchmarking WWF’s SMS program performance so that we can adjust our practices accordingly. Developing key tactics for the SMS program will be the intern’s main focus, but doing so requires a comprehensive understanding of our fundraising and stewardship communications, so they will also collaborate with the larger Digital Fundraising and Stewardship team on related projects. This includes, but is not limited to, improving engagement pieces such as wallpaper and ecards, providing support for web pages’ look and feel, creating engaging email content, and reviewing surveys and communications performance statistics – all to help drive meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research in best practices for SMS
  • Help develop a robust strategy by analyzing message results, optimizing sends, enhancing imagery and language, and finding target segments
  • Explore the setup of new keywords and welcome messaging to better segment our audiences based on their interests
  • Lead SMS A/B tests to optimize messaging and increase ROI and click rate
  • Strategize and develop new content for our SMS and email welcome series for new-to-file supporters
  • Review and update stats and surveys to get a better understanding for our audience and make suggestions on what types of messaging we should use
  • Improve engagement resources on Engaging Networks such as wallpaper and ecards to better serve and engage our audiences
  • Create new engagement communication touchpoints, such as surveys or writing submissions, for donors and supporters that can be used across channels to deepen their relationship to WWF
  • Provide additional photo, content, and analytics support for the Digital Fundraising and Stewardship team

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program. Must be an actively enrolled student and not received degree at time of internship start date (June 17, 2024).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Able to prioritize deadlines, work on multiple projects, and manage relationships across the organization
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop a plus
  • Previous experience in Marketing or Communications-focused courses a plus

Learning Outcomes

  • Content creation and marketing strategy – learn to craft compelling content and engage audiences effectively to reach established goals
  • Data analysis – the ability to interpret stats from communications and use them in strategic decision making
  • Research and analytical thinking – be able to identify best practices and apply them to optimize messaging
  • Technical proficiency – become proficient in digital marketing tools like Photoshop, Excel, an eCRM database, a mass-text marketing platform (Mobile Commons), and more.
  • Leadership and teamwork – lead on projects like A/B testing efforts and coordinate with digital teams to meet goals

 

WWF interns will be provided a set of professional development opportunities, aimed at increasing their exposure to conservation and sustainability careers. This includes:

 

  • Development discussions with their manager;
  • Up to two online courses through Cornell University’s eCornell program;
  • Speed mentoring with different WWF teams;
  • Opportunity to present their work to intern peers and WWF staff;
  • Session on resume and interviewing best practices.

 

Interns will also have access to an array of networking opportunities. This includes meetings with WWF’s CEO, the senior management team, Employee Resource Groups, and representatives from other departments.

 

Location:

US-DC-Washington OR US Remote – WWF employs interns in all states with the exception of: Alabama, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Wyoming.

 

Compensation:

Paid – $17 per hour (full-time, 35 hours per week)

Internship Dates:

Internship will run from June 17, 2024 to August 23, 2024
