Overview of Role

As the Digital Media Officer for MAG Somaliland, your primary responsibility is to lead the development and execution of digital communication and campaigning strategies, building upon the success of our Somaliland media campaign. You will collaborate with Radio Hargeisa, social media, and other digital channels to support MAG’s campaign on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and Civilian Weapons Registration. Your role is pivotal in increasing audience engagement, supporter numbers, and community awareness of the risks associated with SALW, all while ensuring alignment with MAG’s values, brand, and strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Communications and Campaigning:

  • Develop, implement, and manage MAG Somaliland’s digital communication and campaigning strategies, drawing inspiration from the successful elements of the Somaliland media campaign.
  • Plan and create engaging content, including written, visual, and multimedia elements, that resonated with our target audience during the campaign.
  • Manage and grow social media channels, applying strategies that have demonstrated effectiveness during the campaign.
  • Monitor the budget for paid promotions based on insights gained from the campaign’s performance.

Content Creation for Somaliland Campaign:

  • Produce multimedia content, including videos, graphics, posters, infographics, and audio, aligning with the content that resonated with the Somaliland audience during the campaign.
  • Edit, proofread, and enhance written content, applying lessons learned from the campaign, for the website and social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with local teams and partners in Somaliland to replicate the compelling content strategies from the campaign.
  • Develop multimedia content packages tailored to the Somaliland audience, building on the successful content formats from the campaign.

Local Radio Engagement (Radio Hargeisa):

  • Collaborate with Radio Hargeisa to continue amplifying the campaign’s messaging through radio broadcasts and online streams.
  • Provide content that follows the successful radio engagement strategies employed during the campaign.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with Radio Hargeisa to ensure consistent and impactful messaging.

Social Media and Video Engagement:

  • Manage and enhance MAG Somaliland Facebook page, building on the lessons learned during the campaign.
  • Create and curate content for the Facebook page, ensuring it resonates with the younger audience who engage through social media.
  • Continue the distribution and promotion of key campaign messages through short documentary videos, leveraging the success of the previous documentary screening sessions.
  • Monitor engagement metrics on Facebook and other social media platforms, optimizing content based on insights.

Publications and Printed Materials:

  • Develop visually engaging digital content, including posters and billboards, replicating the successful printed materials used in the campaign.
  • Share these materials through digital channels, including social media and the MAG website.

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Generate regular reports on website and social media performance, demonstrating the impact of digital communications on awareness and engagement, as was done during the campaign.
  • Monitor data and trends, making real-time adjustments to campaigns and strategies, applying the lessons learned from the campaign’s monitoring outcomes.
  • Share supporter insight reports with management and stakeholders for continuous learning and improvement.

Essential Requirements

Essential Experience:

  • Significant experience in a digital communications role, with a focus on audience growth and website traffic.
  • Proficiency in content management systems and digital editing tools.
  • Proven track record in digital marketing for brand-building.
  • Experience in multimedia content creation and production.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong multimedia editing skills (Adobe Premier, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
  • Web-based publishing and content management expertise.
  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and present insights to stakeholders.

  • Team player with strong collaboration skills.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Innovative, creative, and proactive.
  • Passion for digital communications and international development.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the not-for-profit or charity sector, especially in collaboration with fundraising teams.
  • Knowledge of 3D software is advantageous.
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
