The Communications Campaigns Service of the UN Department of Global Communications in New York spearheads campaigns to lead the narrative, highlight solutions and generate actions on a number of core issues of relevance today to build a world where everyone thrives in peace, dignity and equality on a healthy planet. We develop campaigns and content that highlight solutions and encourage specific actions. by providing timely, authoritative information on UN priority issues. The producer will be responsible for supporting production around the department”s key areas, including peace and security, climate and UN evergreen assets.

In this context, the Digital Campaigns Unit within the Communications Campaigns Service is looking for up to 2 experienced and creative Online Volunteers experienced across 2 or more areas of production (social media scripting, graphic design, campaign content production, social media video, metrics analysis and/or digital/print and OOH ad design) to support production in the September-November 2025 for its core priorities, including but not limited to, Climate Action, Peace and Security, Act Now, SDGs, UN at 80 and Pact for the Future,. The Online Volunteers will also support the production of guidelines on campaigns production, including the ethical and responsible use of AI production tools.
Reporting directly to the Digital Campaigns Lead (Digital Campaigns Unit) and in close coordination with the UN Social Media Team and Thematic Units within the Communications Campaigns Service:
• Production: Pitch, script and produce engaging campaign content (social media, web, digital and OOH ads and emerging tech platforms) optimized for the UN’s global social media platforms and web channels on UN Campaign topics. This includes researching, fact checking and turning key messages into compelling campaign copy that inspires action and raises awareness.
• Updates of digital assets: Update existing assets e,g. for new data points or key messages (primarily on Adobe Illustrator and Canva, and occasionally video)
• Project organization: Set-up canva templates for language adaptation purposes and/ or update assets for language translations. Organize trello boards for campaign content.
• Pitch and present new ideas to engage youth differently around key campaign issues
• Keep up-to-date with new social media content, technology and production trends, best practices and tools in order to identify new campaigning opportunities and to feed into guidelines, including on the responsible and ethical use of AI in production
• Analyze digital analytics to support the expansion of the UN’s reach over social media and web around its campaign topics
• Feed into guidelines on campaign productions, including AI tools
The Online Volunteer will be provided with material and other sources to develop the campaign as required and available. For close coordination and discussion, the Online Volunteer is expected to be available for calls via Microsoft Teams during New York working hours.
This assignment provides Online Volunteers with an opportunity to develop and strengthen their skills in campaign production, emerging technology, networking within the communications team and other learning experiences.
Candidates should have previous experience in campaign or strategy development with excellent communication and writing/editing and audiovisual, social media and/or graphic design production skills. Good knowledge of online marketing tools and channels, as well as experience with designing outreach/marketing tools is highly desired. A degree in marketing, marketing management, communications, or related fields is considered an asset.
Qualifications and Competencies
Education:
BA in Digital Media, Social Media Marketing and Production, Visual Communications, Video Production, Journalism, Advertising or related field. Master”s degree desirable.
Experience:
• At least 5+ years of experience writing for digital campaigns, primarily on social media
• Excellent creative campaign writing skills for various digital media forms, especially short-form graphics on social media
• Experience producing and writing for social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter Facebook, LinkedIn), campaign websites and/or advertising platforms
• Experience working for international organizations, design firm, advertising or in-house creative department
• Experience writing web feature and explainer pieces desired
• Experience with third-party social and design tools, such as Canva and Trello, required
• Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator required
• Displays open, co-operative behavior with other team members
• Meets deadlines and manages time efficiently
