The Digital Media Specialist records and edits videos created by the school for recruiting, distance education, and other communications needs, including the school’s website. Supervises hourly student and non-student staff in the equipment check-out program and oversee school’s audio and video equipment inventory. Provides end-user support and training in the use of multimedia and instructional technology utilized in connection with teaching, student projects and sponsored events.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Executes recording, streaming video, and video-conferencing for distance education classes, special events, and meetings. Assists faculty with using applications and instructional technology in conference rooms and classrooms. Provides expert advice and guidance to faculty on best practices and changing trends in multimedia production and distance education.
  • Ensures quality control and provides direction to faculty and staff so that the school is represented to internal and external stakeholders by the highest quality multimedia assets.
  • Assists in multimedia production for marketing and communications on the school’s website and other communications venues. Collaborates with and provide consultation to faculty, staff, and students on multimedia projects and technologies.
  • Responsible for oversight and management of the school’s Equipment Checkout office. Including the management of part-time hourly assistants. The Equipment Checkout office has an extensive, high-value inventory of multimedia equipment used by the faculty and students in Luddy Indy courses.
  • Designs, maintains and supports school’s extensive, high value multimedia equipment/systems inventory in classrooms, assorted research and multimedia specialty labs, and conference rooms.
  • Designs, maintains and supports the school’s specialty multimedia laboratories. Provide budget information to the fiscal officer regarding equipment checkout and oversee the equipment checkout budget throughout the year. Consult with technology services on equipment purchases that may fall under IU’s Cyber Risk Mitigation Responsibilities policy (IT-28).

General Responsibilities

  • Ensures operational integrity in the design, development, and implementation of systems in the classrooms/other learning environment for maximum availability and performance by monitoring queues, investigating, diagnosing and resolving moderately complex equipment failures.
  • Develops and implements preventive maintenance procedures; performs inventory control and oversees repair shop and work area.
  • Installs, tests and monitors applications software to maintain integrity and security and ensure compliance with departmental and industry standards.
  • Evaluates trends, collaborates on design, specification and acquisition and interacts with external vendors/installers on the implementation of hardware and control systems meeting classroom operational needs.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on emerging digital media technologies and multimedia systems.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in related field)

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience with setup, adjustment, and fine-tuning of multimedia and video conferencing equipment and production of high-quality material for a variety of purposes, such as communications, marketing, distance education, and providing input and guidance on student projects
  • Superior skills in computing and interactive software. A strong creative acumen is required to succeed in this position
  • Ability to be creative in suggesting and deciding the right production values to create the desired effect and configuring the right technology to achieve said production values


This position requires the ability to communicate effectively and to operate computers and other related technical equipment. The role is required to maintain and interact with computers and frequently move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position works daily with computer workstations, laptops and mobile devices, as well as a wide array of digital video cameras and associated audio and video components.

$42,000 – $50,000 annually
