Digital Outreach Specialist – Wildlife Conservation Consultancy
Location: Remote, with international travel required (Requires compliance with international data sovereignty protocols and ability to operate across CET, EST, and PST time zones)
Reports to: Executive Director
Salary: $35,000 – $45,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
Hours: Full-time (40+ hours/week, flexible schedule across global time zones ; requires asynchronous workflow management)
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly specialized Digital Outreach Specialist to support our consultancy agency, which provides communication, marketing, and fundraising services to mid-sized NGOs specializing in parrot conservation. This role requires an in-depth understanding of avian conservation and the ability to develop and execute high-impact digital marketing and fundraising campaigns. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of donor engagement, multi-channel communications, and inbound marketing to increase support for conservation initiatives. We are seeking a high-agency individual with a dual hemispheric understanding of both inbound marketing psychology and the socio-ecological dynamics of the illegal wildlife trade.
Key Responsibilities:
Digital Marketing & Donor Engagement
- Lead all aspects of media, marketing, and donor communication for multiple clients, with a strong emphasis on storytelling, inbound marketing, and strategic content creation.
- Develop and execute high-performing fundraising campaigns from inception to completion, securing large-scale donations to support international parrot conservation projects.
- Create, manage, and execute multi-channel communication efforts leveraging social media, email marketing, content marketing, and events to drive donor acquisition and engagement.
- Optimize marketing automation and lead nurturing processes through email campaigns, CRM database management, and social media engagement.
- Establish and track closed-loop analytics to assess how inbound marketing efforts convert non-monetary supporters into donors.
- Propose innovative marketing campaign ideas to increase engagement and donor retention.
Social Media & Digital Content Management
- Develop and curate engaging content that reflects the work of NGOs and partners, strengthening brand awareness and credibility.
- Manage and grow social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and LinkedIn, with a data-driven approach to increase engagement and conversions.
- Facilitate online conversations with supporters by responding to comments, direct messages, and other incoming communications.
- Research, analyze, and implement best practices for paid and organic social media campaigns.
- Monitor and adapt to new trends and changes in social media algorithms and technologies.
- Proficient in photography, video editing, and Canva, with the ability to create high-quality visual content that supports digital outreach and storytelling.
Partner Communications & Content Coordination
- Work directly with global conservation partners to gather, organize, and create compelling media content that aligns with fundraising and outreach objectives.
- Implement and manage a partner communication repository for internal use by NGO staff to stay informed on partner developments and project updates.
- Curate and publish engaging conservation stories for NGO websites, newsletters, and digital platforms.
Strategic Reporting & Performance Analysis
- Create quarterly reports summarizing outreach activities, engagement metrics, and key performance indicators, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Conduct and implement best-practices research to enhance digital engagement and optimize donor conversion strategies.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a fundraising, communications, or digital marketing role within a wildlife conservation charity, NGO, or related sector.
- Direct experience with Psittaciformes and a demonstrable understanding of their conservation is non-negotiable.
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, biology, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of wildlife conservation, particularly parrot conservation and global wildlife trade issues.
- Proven track record of securing large donations through strategic storytelling, donor engagement, and development and management of digital fundraising campaigns.
- Strong experience in managing multi-channel digital marketing campaigns, including social media, email marketing, and inbound content strategies.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, with exceptional storytelling and communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex scientific concepts related to biology and conservation into engaging, accessible content for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with:
- video/photo content creation tools such as Illustrator, Premier Pro, and Capcut
- social media tools such as Ads manager, and Meta business suite
- CRM databases: advanced querying and segmentation within Salesforce or similar relational databases.
- online media sharing software and file management such as Air
- website design, editing and development through WordPress, with proficiency in PHP and CSS
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects independently.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally at short notice (often just 1 weeks’ notice), for long periods of time (minimum 3-months), including to remote locations in developing countries, with no travel restrictions
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated success in managing communications projects with teams across multiple time zones.
- Experience with social media management tools, email marketing platforms, and analytics software.
- Familiarity with global parrot conservation efforts, key stakeholders, and the historical context of conservation policies.
- Experience in implementing paid digital marketing campaigns to grow audience engagement and donor acquisition.
- Hands-on field experience working with avian species, with a strong preference for parrots.
