Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UN Environment’s mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEPs International Methane Observatory (IMEO), within the Climate Change Division, exists to deliver improvement across research, reporting and regulation and connecting this information to the individuals who have agency to reduce methane emissions. Launched at COP28 in late 2023, the IMEO Methane Data Platform focuses initially on emissions from the fossil industry. It reconciles methane data from scientific measurement studies, satellites through the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS), rigorous industry reporting through the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), and national inventories. From 2023, IMEO will expand its activities to other sectors. The IMEO digital ecosystem comprises of the below digital platforms, all of which work in harmony to inform the IMEO Methane Data Platform: OGMP Reporting Plume Viewer MARS notifications system IMEO Methane Data (public facing platform) With a number of high stake deliveries lined up for 2024 alongside internal and external/hybrid data and development teams it is critical that this role is brought in to use agile and scrum methodologies to manage resources, teams, and deliveries against key milestones.
Qualifications/special skills
Experience with environmental data, and integration of data from multiple streams is a plus. Understanding of the Methane, Climate or Energy sectors is a plus. Experience managing projects with geospatial data visualizations, design, code, and associated API is a plus. Clear, concise and user-friendly communication skills to easily transmit your ideas to any audience Ability to work on numerous assignments at one time with demonstrated follow-through, attention to detail and commitment to business partnership Comfortable navigating ambiguity – in business requirements, technology options and project direction Proven experience in working and delivering with remote cross-cultural teams. Strong motivational and organizational skills Familiarity with React, Javascript, python and Postgresql is required. Knowledge and deep working experience of Agile principles and ways of working required (i.e. Scrum, Kanban)
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in English is required

The role of the IMEO Digital Project Coordinator and Scrum Master Consultant is multifaceted, encompassing various tasks and responsibilities related to project coordination, agile methodology implementation, team facilitation, and stakeholder communication. Below are the specific tasks and responsibilities associated with this role: Project planning and management Develop and maintain project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations. Coordinate with stakeholders to define project requirements, objectives, and success criteria. Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery. Agile methodology implementation Facilitate agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Ensure adherence to agile principles, such as iterative development, continuous improvement, and self-organization. Coach team members on agile practices and methodologies to optimize team performance. Team facilitation and productivity Empower and support cross-functional project teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement. Facilitate decision-making and conflict resolution within the team, promoting open communication and trust. Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, helping them overcome challenges and develop their skills. Stakeholder communication and management: Act as a liaison between the project team and stakeholders, ensuring clear and transparent communication. Manage stakeholder expectations, gather feedback, and incorporate stakeholder input into project planning and execution. Provide regular updates on project progress, milestones, risks, and issues to stakeholders through meetings, reports, and presentations. Risk & issue management Identify, assess, and prioritize project risks and issues, developing mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Monitor the resolution of risks and issues, tracking their status and escalating as necessary to ensure timely resolution. Conduct root cause analysis and lessons learned sessions to identify opportunities for process improvement and risk prevention. Quality assurance and testing oversight Collaborate with the quality assurance team to define test plans, execute test cases, and manage defects effectively. Ensure that all deliverables meet the defined quality standards and acceptance criteria. Facilitate collaboration between development and QA teams to address issues and optimize testing processes. Continuous improvement Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize project processes, enhance team efficiency, and foster innovation. Solicit feedback from team members and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and implement actionable changes. Facilitate sprint retrospectives to reflect on project performance, celebrate successes, and identify opportunities for enhancement. Documentation and reporting: Maintain project documentation, including requirements, user stories, sprint backlogs, and meeting minutes. Generate regular progress reports, status updates, and performance metrics to keep stakeholders informed and engaged. Ensure that all project documentation is up-to-date, organized, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
