Search for the Director, Accelerating Resilience Innovations in Drylands Institute

The University of New Mexico

Albuquerque, New Mexico

The University of New Mexico (UNM), a flagship R1-level research institution, seeks a dynamic and inspirational Director for the Accelerating Resilience Innovations in Drylands Institute (ARID).

This is an exciting time to join ARID and UNM. Leveraging New Mexico’s unique environment and diverse communities, ARID is a premier transdisciplinary research institute dedicated to advancing climate resilience in drylands. ARID’s work spans four key areas: sustainable water, adaptive infrastructure, healthy ecosystems, and community health and vitality. With the support of UNM’s faculty and its vibrant Albuquerque community, ARID is positioned to make transformative contributions to sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation.

The incoming Director — in alignment with the University’s newly developed UNM 2040 Strategic Plan and in partnership with the University’s dedicated faculty, staff, and student employees — will set a trajectory for the Institute that recognizes the central role of transdisciplinary research to UNM and the state. They will advance the Institute’s research mission, grow external partnerships, and attract resources to support faculty, students, and staff. A skilled relationship builder, the Director will foster interdisciplinary collaborations across the University and with government, industry, and community stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished leader with expertise in sustainability-related fields, a strong record of scholarly achievement, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They will bring a bold vision for ARID’s future and the ability to amplify its local, national, and global impact, ensuring ARID continues to shape a resilient and sustainable future.

UNM is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, disability, or protected veteran status.
