Surf to Snow is looking for a Director of Biological Services! This is an exciting time of growth for S2S and we are looking for someone to grow with us! In this role, you’ll lead the development of new work and oversee the execution of current work. You’ll use your excellent leadership and communication skills to guide the technical solutions, including growing the team and expertise. You will be responsible for maintaining the technical accuracy of deliverables and ensuring team members have appropriate technical training to support client needs. You will provide technical expertise and mentor junior staff, while collaborating with fellow members of the leadership and project management teams

Essential Functions

  • Manage implementation of QA/QC process for all technical documents and deliverables.
  • Support and/or lead proposal submittals
  • Identify and build relationships with customers and potential customers
  • Support and develop strategy for continued departmental growth
  • Ensure the success of biology projects
  • Manage Biology Department procedures and best practices
  • Manage training programs for department employees, including job safety, technical skills, and excellent customer service.
  • Oversee and support biology projects as Project Manager and/or technical expert.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop biology staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and assisting in continuing staff career development planning and opportunities.
  • Support special projects
  • Actively participate and support strategic planning for the organization.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • S. (M.S. or PhD preferred) in Biology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or related field
  • 10+ years relevant experience
  • Valid CA driver’s license or ability to obtain by first day of hire
  • Ability to perform and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, exercise initiative, and creativity meet deadlines and goals
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with diverse groups including field staff, contractors, and clients
  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and orally, with customers, vendors, employees, and peers
  • Ability to identify problems while analytically and creatively identifying solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Detail oriented and great organization skills
  • Ability to strategically make decisions while maintaining big-picture perspective and group vision
  • Knowledge of California’s biological resources with a strength in wildlife and/or wetland ecology

Desired:

  • Current or previous USFWS 10(a)(1)(A) Permit and current/previous CDFW Scientific Collecting Permits
  • Strong understanding of FESA, CESA, CEQA, and NEPA
  • Experience working with utilities and federal clients
  • Knowledge and experience in business and leadership
  • Demonstrated success building an organization, establishing procedures, and coaching/developing a team
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a knowledge resource to the organization’s owners/leaders that provides leadership and direction
