The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its EIB Global Directorate, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, the Director General*. As Director General (DG) GLO, you will create and implement the vision and overarching strategy for the Directorate, leading a team of close to 350 staff, and contributing to the success and sustainability of the Bank through your management of GLO operations. This is a full-time position at grade 8/9.
The successful candidate will be offered a definitive duration contract (CDD) of 5 years which may be renewed or converted in accordance with applicable policies and rules.

The EIB Group is one of the largest international finance institutions in the world with an annual financing volume of more than EUR 85 billion. Over 10% of the EIB Group financing volume, equivalent to EUR almost 10 billion in 2023, is carried out in countries outside the EU where the EIB has been active for around 60 years.
As the Director General for GLO, you will be responsible for:
Reporting to the EIB President, you will represent your Directorate throughout the Bank, collaborating closely with your peers in other Directorates.
You will ultimately be responsible for the achievement of the Outside the EU Operational Plan objectives – both quantitative and qualitative – as decided by the Management Committee and by the Bank’s Board of Directors following the advice or opinion from the Board advisory group on EIB global operations and adherence to best banking practices.
You will need to establish strong and effective working arrangements with your peers in other Directorates of the Bank to ensure functioning modalities of cooperation to effectively and seamlessly carry out the activities of your directorate, as well as appropriate incentive structures promoting collaboration with the other directorates, a sense of common purpose, collegiality and joint accountability. This may entail consultations on required skills, operational policies and the proper implementation of the “Three Lines of Defence” and full group alignment from the outset.
Under the guidance of the President and the Management Committee you will have an important role in reinforcing high-level dialogue with relevant EU counterparts (EC and EEAS) as well as with peer IFIs and DFIs.

(**) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The Bank offers appropriate training support.
