The University of
Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of Philanthropy
is
currently seeking a Director, Gift
Planning

Primary
Duties:

    Direct day-to-day
    operations of gift planning. Set goals for productivity and
    efficiency in gift solicitation. Plan effective allocation of
    resources.
    Actively solicits gifts
    from individuals. Prepares proposals on gift contributions.
    Works with donor’s
    lawyers, accountants, and financial advisors to provide technical
    and legal oversight from the University’s perspective.
    Conceptualizes and
    oversees planned giving marketing strategies.
    Oversees general office
    administration, including gift acceptance of planned gifts, and
    administration of bequests.
    Oversees development and
    management of planned giving data, including adding, updating, and
    deleting records as necessary.
    Trains and educates
    subordinate staff and development directors on concepts of planned
    giving.
    Develops and cultivates
    planned giving proposals and present development projects to
    prospects for deferred and outright gifts for University and
    schools.
    Provides technical
    expertise in gift planning to current and prospective donors
    regarding the tax and financial aspects and consequences of various
    planned giving programs, to ensure the best interests of both the
    donor and the University are met.
    Performs other duties as
    assigned.

Qualifications: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree
or JD preferred.

Experience: Eight (8) years of development
experience with negotiation and management of third party planned
giving vendors and at least four (4) years in planned giving,
preferably within an institution of higher education.
Supervisory
Experience: 
Four (4) years of direct management
involved in recruitment, training, performance, and professional
development of staff.

Thorough knowledge of
position requirements. Thorough knowledge of all applicable
requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of
applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate
both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to
support a mission and strategic vision. Instructional, training,
and teambuilding skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships.
Skill in consultation and change management. Ability to
demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values

Justice, and Innovation and Discovery.
Hiring Range:
$135,000 – $145,000 (Commensurate with education and
experience)
