About the Position
EGA’s Director, Justice & Equity (J & E) is responsible for
the development of EGA’s
applied learning arc on racial equity. Working closely with the
CEO, the J & E director
leads the operationalization of EGA’s Racial Equity Point of View
(POV) for the
organization and the membership. They provide strategic oversight
and cultivates a
new philanthropic culture grounded in collective power, reciprocal
respect, and mutual
accountability. This includes deep partnership with EGA’s internal
and external
partners. Further they have strategic oversight of POV application
and treatment at
EGA’s signature events, to ensure that the POV is embedded in the
design and execution
of member venues. The successful candidate will thoughtfully
facilitate courageous
discourse, and co-develop organizational practices that advance a
bold vision for
grantmaking support, they will be guided by the experience of BIPOC
and
impacted communities and utilize EGAs data, position and experience
in shared
learning and collaboration.
The Director, Justice & Equity acts as an internal adviser to
EGA’s Programs, Events and
Strategic Partnerships teams to shape the design and outcomes of
EGA’s member and
external engagement, their touchstone is the tenets of the racial
equity POV. Internally,
the Director, Justice & Equity works with the COO to support
multi-year learning for
staff, to build practices and develop policies in step with the
POV. Their guidance equips
the EGA staff to partner externally with the same lens.
The Equity and Justice Director provides strategic leadership to
the EGA team as
exemplified by the following activities:
Key Responsibilities
Signature Events
Direct and oversee POV applied to EGA’s signature events, from
design to post-event
evaluation.
● Engage CEO input in the vision, arc of programming, and calls to
action for the
membership.
● Recruit and source ideas from the event’s advisory committee,
made up of
members of EGA’s member network.
● Manage Engagement & Events Manager and Engagement &
Events Coordinator’s
planning and internal facilitation processes, to execute event
deliverables.
● Develop high-level communications such as keynotes and featured
mainstage
remarks to engage EGA audiences in emphasizing philanthropy’s role
and utility
in supporting movements for equity.
● Develop and manage signature event budgets with attention to
equity at each
level of decision-making.
● Ensure connectivity across EGA programs and with a central
narrative grounded
in learning trajectory on the Racial Equity Point of View, with
clear commitments
and action steps for continued involvement.
Collaborate with EGA directors on the design and opportunity to
highlight programs
within signature convenings:
● Partner, in collaboration with Strategic Partnerships Director,
to design cohort
opportunities for the membership during signature events.
● Ensure connectivity between signature event cohort experiences
and the
recruitment and promotion of EGA’s member programs.
● Collaborate with Program Director on event sponsorships strategy;
advise on
sponsor outreach efforts that highlight content development.
● Align with EGA Communications Manager to ensure event outreach
and
promotion material plans are effectively communicated along
EGA’s
organizational voice and platform.
Internal & External Justice and Equity
Initiatives
Work with the CEO to develop an annual action plan for the
organization’s work on
racial equity, and belonging. Identify new work streams and
partners.
● Work with the COO to ensure that the management of racial equity
approaches
are unified and inclusive.
● Catalyze and facilitate organizational culture change by
providing key leadership
to develop internal culture and policies on Racial Equity POV
learning and
compliance.
● Work with the CEO and COO to ensure racial equity and belonging
are a
functioning part of EGA hiring processes.
● Support the CEO as needed in developing Board collaboration of
racial equity
initiatives.
● Share input on funding opportunities to grow racial equity
programs, led by
Program Director, to enhance EGA resources.
● Lead efforts to support the CEO as chief implementer, as she
promotes EGA’s
POV & philanthropic approaches to racial equity.
● Advise Strategic Partnerships and Communications teams on
insights and
recommendations to include in member communications and connections
on the
philanthropic lens on legislative and regulatory issues impacting
EGA’s Racial
Equity POV.
● Work with the EGA staff to track and report internal progress on
DEIJ metrics
and outcomes. Provide biannual updates to EGA’s board and staff,
leading
partnership with Tracking the Field Research Specialist, to develop
periodic
comparisons to EGA’s Tracking the Field data.
External – Membership & Philanthropy Ecosystem
● Serve as an enthusiastic leader with a demonstrated commitment to
racial equity
in philanthropy.
● Promote EGA POV with external groups and partners.
● Work with Strategic Partnerships Director & Communications
Manager to
harmonize member training and learning opportunities with
recruitment,
retention and advancement goals for broader success in racial
equity and
belonging outcomes.
● Serve as the main point of contact with POV programming
consultants, as
needed.
● Identify topics for EGA’s work products on philanthropic
approaches to racial
equity including white papers, analyses of EGA data via TTF, and
other written
materials.
● Develop opportunities for EGA staff to lead the facilitation of
member
discussions that build progress on racial equity advancement
efforts.
Administration/Routine Duties
● Staff the EGA Board Program Strategies Committee (PSC) and guide
the
development and implementation of the committee’s work plan and
member
connections to support EGA programs.
● Travel to take part in networking opportunities to promote
Justice & Equity
elements of EGA’s membership, support recruitment, and build
community.
● Represent EGA in public or media outlets, as identified by the
CEO, and with
partner organizations and individuals as needed.
● Act as a thought partner to senior leadership, including Program
Director, to
coordinate, budget, and manage POV-specific revenue and
expenditures, as
needed.
