Position Summary:

KIND seeks a Director, Major Gifts to lead a new team of
philanthropy professionals while working directly with
high-capacity donors and prospects to accomplish their giving
objectives in the form of annual giving, major, and planned gifts.
The Director, Major Gifts is responsible for the strategic
direction and management of the major giving program, which
represents $3 million in annual revenue for KIND as part of an
overall $5 million individual giving program. In partnership with
the Senior Director of Individual Giving and Events this person is
responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation,
acknowledgement, and stewardship of major donors, including
supporting key relationships between certain donors and the
President, the Chief Development Officer, and members of the Board
of Directors.

The Director, Major Gifts will help develop KIND’s strategies
and systems to expand donor outreach, solicitation, and
cultivation, and nurture relationships through targeted
communications, personal outreach, and events. This candidate will
play a key role in developing and implementing KIND’s fundraising
plan with detailed revenue goals and defined metrics. With planned
revenue growth and increased recognition on the national stage,
this position requires an individual who enjoys and is particularly
skilled in interfacing with a high volume of donors, with the
ambition to maximize the untapped opportunities, as well as attract
new supporters aligned to the organization’s work and mission. The
qualified individual will have a strong track-record of managing a
personal portfolio of donor relationships and leading others to
success; will be a self-starter; and will be prepared to work in a
fast-paced, high-energy environment. Key measures of success for
the position include increasing contributed income, growing an
overall portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, and engaging
personally with donors and prospects. This position reports to the
Senior Director, Individual Giving & Events.

This a headquarters position based remotely from any
location in the U.S. Travel will be required.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with Senior Director, Individual Giving and Events
    to develop and implement a comprehensive annual major gifts
    program, including annual strategy, messaging, and goals.
  • Manages a portfolio of 80-100 individuals and family
    foundations with the capacity to make six- and seven-figure gifts
    in accordance with established team goals on meetings,
    solicitations, donor retention, and salesforce management.
  • Supervises and leads the major gifts team in setting goals,
    accomplishing cultivation and stewardship activities, and meeting
    or exceeding revenue targets.
  • Develops strategies to upgrade current donors, identifies and
    qualifies new prospects, and personally cultivates and solicits
    high-level gifts.
  • Serves as development liaison to 5-10 advisory committees and
    field offices, offering fundraising oversight and developing
    regional strategies based on local donor base, opportunities, and
    obstacles.
  • Approaches work with creativity and persistence, including but
    not limited to pursuing specific donor networks and interest groups
    to reach a diverse range of prospective donors.
  • Provides comprehensive, timely and innovative stewardship for
    existing donors. Elevates the importance of stewarding all gifts
    and programs in ways that strengthen donor interest in,
    satisfaction with, and commitment to KIND.
  • Collaborates with and support KIND’s senior leadership team,
    program staff, board members, and advisory committee members with
    respect to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts,
    using their time appropriately and ensuring their effectiveness as
    spokespersons and fundraisers for KIND; prepares meeting briefings
    and correspondence, event scripts, talking points, and other
    support materials.
  • Effectively navigates institutional resources to be an
    effective KIND representative with donors; stays informed of
    institutional priorities, regional work and achievements, and
    current updates on key immigration issues.
  • Adeptly manages Salesforce and other processes such as tracking
    donor gift projections and list management for portfolio. In
    partnership with the Salesforce Manager, creates and implements
    tracking systems and reports to monitor and analyze work.
  • Leads on team projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of development experience, with at least 5
    years of experience managing a major gifts portfolio, closing at
    least $1,000,000 a year in gifts above $25,000.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing a donor and
    prospect portfolio, deep knowledge of fundraising and moves
    management best practices, and a track record of securing six- and
    seven-figure donations from a variety of individual funders.
  • Proficient in building and nurturing strong relationships
    through non-transactional and mutually beneficial approaches.
  • Committed to fulfilling stated objectives, ensuring
    accountability amongst peers; provide unwavering support to those
    involved in the pursuit of our objectives.
  • Ability to travel (15% – 25% of time) to conduct in-person
    business.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to participate in functions and
    activities beyond regular work hours.
  • Willingness to attend events outside of the standard work
    schedule, given sufficient advanced notification.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in
    English.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites (such as Teams,
    Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND
    environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging
    opportunities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work on
    multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment. Ability to
    prioritize tasks and to delegate as appropriate.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds,
    lived experiences, and communication styles.

Salary Range: $110,000 – $120,000
dependent on experience

KIND requires all U.S. based staff be COVID vaccinated with the
