Purpose of the Position

To lead and manage the development and implementation of the Institute’s marketing, public relations and communication strategies and provide coordination and management of all public relations and marketing functions and projects to achieve the best possible messaging and presentation of the Institute’s programs.

The Director Marketing and Communications is a key member of the Institute’s Executive Leadership Team, and whose primary role is to promote the Institute by increasing its visibility and presence, ensuring all activity is informed by and aligned with the Institute’s Strategic Plan.

The Director leads the development and implementation of the Institute’s brand vision to position the Institute as the first preference of Indigenous students. The Director oversees Institute Communications, Editorial and Design Services, Visual Media, Web Strategy and Development, advice and coordination of all marketing and communications as required by the Institute’s academic, training, and administrative units.

Duties

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy aligned with Batchelor Institute’s goals, including researching the Institute’s target co-hort and understand the strategic direction of the Institute to design effective strategies for engagement.
  • Lead and manage the marketing team, providing guidance, direction, and support to achieve departmental goals.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and ensure brand positioning and consistent messaging across all marketing channels. Ensure integrity in all communications and collateral.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of marketing initiatives. Prepare regular reports for Execuitve Leadership Team and Council to evaluate marketing Return On Investment (ROI) and inform future strategies.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design and execute marketing campaigns across multiple channels (digital, social media, print, events); ensure message and brand consistency; monitor and adjust campaigns for optimal results.
  • Develop and oversee the marketing budget; allocate resources effectively to meet objectives.
  • Drive thought leadership and industry influence through participation in key education events, conferences, and industry associations.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing or related discipline and/or a minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities, with experience leading and motivating teams to achieve goals across geographically dispersed regions.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to implement systems and processes to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and Batchelor Institute policies.
  • Assess marketing analytics and data-driven decision-making. Ability to interpret data, draw insights, and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing strategies, including familiarity with marketing automation tools, CRM systems, and other relevant marketing technologies.
  • Experience in engaging key stakeholders including Territory and Federal Government and Not for Profit organisations, as well as internal stakeholders at the Institute.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all backgrounds levels.
  • Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities which included a strong ability to manage deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
