Director, MCIC – Position Description:

The Molecular Cellular Imaging Center (MCIC) is an advanced interdisciplinary service lab that supports research, teaching and outreach in the areas of microscopy, genetics, genomics, general molecular biology, and bioinformatics. The position serves the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at The Ohio State University. The Director will provide strategic leadership, oversight and vision for the MCIC. These responsibilities include:

  • Directly managing and evaluating MCIC staff.
  • Develop and implement a sustainable budget model (also incorporating long-term plans for equipment maintenance and acquisition).
  • Participate in extramural funding opportunities (e.g. equipment grants), including participating in manuscript preparation and in the preparation of proposals for new funding.
  • Expand research, educational and training opportunities in modern genomic sequencing and microscopy techniques, including but not limited to workshops, certificate training, or courses.
  • Engage and collaborate on faculty-led research projects with CFAES and OSU faculty on both the CFAES Wooster and the Columbus Campuses as well as those from other institutions and industries.  

Although this is a Director position, association with a CFAES departmental unit (e.g. adjunct) is expected. The ability to work collaboratively across a variety of disciplines and departments as well as provide evidence of leadership in interdisciplinary research teams. Excellent communication skills and a willingness to engage with multiple audiences such as students, faculty, administration and external stakeholders is expected.

Position will supervise MCIC research staff.

Required Education/Experience:

PhD in Molecular Biology.  Evidence of experience in bioinformatics, genomics, biostatistics, microscopy or other related fields through publications is expected. Experience of working collaboratively across a variety of disciplines and departments as well as provide evidence of leadership in interdisciplinary research teams.
