Cancer care is complex and rapidly changing. Patients and caregivers face emotional, physical, and logistical challenges in the pursuit of high-quality care. The Navigation business unit leads initiatives that improve cancer care delivery for patients, caregivers, and health care professionals while mitigating the suffering caused by a cancer diagnosis. Oncology navigation supports timely, coordinated, and person-centered care and scientifically demonstrated to improve patient outcomes. Recent changes in reimbursement models have opened a pathway for the expansion of equitable, high quality, sustainable navigation. ACS has been a leader and supporter of navigation since it was conceptualized at the ACS 1989 Hearings on Cancer and the Poor. Given recent historic changes and the critical role of navigation in cancer care delivery, it is vital for ACS to continue to remain at the forefront of oncology navigation through care delivery, education, policy, and research.
As part of the Patient Support Pillar, this position directs initiatives to support the adoption and integration of navigation, including workforce development and training, leveraging program assets and capabilities of ACS to address barriers to high quality cancer care. This position applies knowledge and skills in planning, executing, and evaluating training curriculum and other key initiatives, in collaboration with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
