The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies
(APAICS) is a national non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3)
organization dedicated to promoting Asian American and Native
Hawaiian/Pacific Islander participation and representation at all
levels of the political process, from community service to elected
office. APAICS programs focus on developing leadership, building
public policy knowledge, and filling the political pipeline for
Asian Americans and Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders to pursue
public office at the local, state, and federal levels.
In furtherance of this mission, APAICS seeks a Director of
Alumni Affairs to establish a formal alumni network to amplify
APAICS’ impact across the country through place-based partnerships.
Once fully formed, APAICS’ alumni network should serve as a
resource to support APAICS’ regional events and as a knowledge base
to help AA & NH/PIs further their careers in public service.
The Director of Alumni Affairs will lead all of APAICS efforts to
engage alumni.
The person in this role will be tasked with recruiting APAICS
alum to form regional alumni boards across the country; drafting
memorandums of understanding with each alumni chapter; identifying
ways to increase the value of alumni membership; writing monthly
newsletters to alumni; and serving as a liaison between APAICS, the
national alumni board, and the regional alumni chapters.
This role will report directly to the Vice President of Programs
and Community Engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic
Outreach/Communications/Operations
- Work closely with the President/CEO and V.P. of Programs to
establish goals, a robust program, and targeted messaging aimed at
engaging APAICS’ different program alumni. - Propose a budget to accomplish the agreed upon plan and execute
the plan within the approved budget. - Work closely with the Chief Operations Officer to ensure the
Alumni Relations budget stays within APAICS’ overall budget. - Keep the organization on track to achieving set goals in
regards to alumni and propose changes as needed while staying
within budget. - Develop an enhanced alumni database/directory, capturing
biographical and career information of alumni and updating internal
tags. - Support the Programs Team in their work to develop
relationships with current program participants. - Research and advise APAICS on the best structure for a formal
alumni network given APAICS’ present size and lead those efforts to
launch an alumni network. - Draft memorandums of understanding outlining expectations and
benefits for alumni leadership chapters and hold them accountable
to the commitments agreed upon. - Create a repository of surveys, projects, correspondence.
- Develop and transmit APAICS material to alumni both in public
appearances and in written/ online communications. - Draft a monthly alumni newsletter with relevant information to
the different types of alumni. - Send annual surveys to alumni to update address, contact, and
career information. - Help identify, choose, and manage a third-party platform
through which to engage with alumni and help connect them to
potential mentors or persons to offer career advice. - Plan and execute virtual programming, as well as in-person
events for alumni. - Collaborate with other departments to develop programs,
including quarterly alumni reunions and alumni awards program. - Coordinate with the Communications Department to build a direct
mail program and mailing calendar. - Develop and scale customized online alumni engagement
opportunities. - Establish relationships with and value for APAICS alumni with
an eye on eventually leading alumni giving campaigns. - Serve as liaison between APAICS and alumni members.
- Recruit and manage alumni volunteers to help assist with alumni
events. - Produce reports that identify trends and demographic data to
measure alumni network engagement and growth.
Travel Requirements:
Ability and willingness to travel and work weekends and
evenings.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Qualification requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Candidates must
have a valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a relevant role.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Outgoing and positive personality, strong interpersonal skills,
and collaborative working style. - Organized, detail-oriented, and ability to work
independently. - Demonstrated skills in planning and executing successful
events. - Ability and willingness to travel and work weekends and in
evenings. - Candidates with experience and expertise in these areas will
receive prioritized attention: alumni affairs, campaign experience
and communications.
**Special requirements or experience in integrating
the work of these projects will also be viewed
favorably:
- Build and execute a social media plan, integrated social media
approach to cultivating and soliciting alumni. - Experience with integration of social media channels including
social links, share buttons, twitter feeds, social hubs, Instagram,
FB and YouTube videos. - Ability to organize disparate bits of data or surveys into
understandable reports and general ability to project statistical
trends.
COMPENSATION
- Salary is $75,000 – $80,000 with healthcare premium
reimbursement, 21 days of vacation, access to 401(k) plan after 90
days of employment, all federal holidays off, Christmas through New
Year’s off, and transit benefits. - This full-time opportunity is located in Washington, D.C.
