Responsibilities
The Director of Alumni Engagement will supervise, manage,
evaluate and build a strategy to create awareness, foster
communication and involvement and strengthen the connection between
the university and its 400,000+ alumni, parents and friends. This
individual will support the strategy and mission of the Division of
University Advancement (DoUA), working to lead programming to
engage alumni and students, near and far. The incumbent is
expected to reinforce a collaborative and supportive relationship
within and among the Advancement division. The Director oversees 5
strategic program areas: Alumni Networks (8 in total), Volunteer
Engagement, Student Engagement, Awards, Scholarships, Outreach and
Engagement.
Develops and builds a virtual engagement presence, designed to
build engagement outside of Tallahassee. Responsible for
developing and implementing innovative ideas, providing alumni with
career and admissions resources, trending, and relevant
webinars. Works with Colleges/Units to involve key partners
in Central Advancement to integrate them in programming.
Manage staff responsible for Student engagement, working to lead
programming tied to a journey map, beginning from student
engagement leading up to the alumni experience. Co-Chairs the
University Homecoming Committee and leads the team responsible for
the overall Homecoming experience for the Division of University
Advancement. Supports the volunteer engagement strategy closely
with the Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement to build a
pipeline of volunteer leaders at FSU in addition to developing
avenues for volunteer engagement across the University in
collaboration with Campus Partners. Manages the team responsible
for 8 Affinity Networks.
Manage, develops and directs annual program objectives resulting
in a proposed budget for all programs each fiscal year; Monitor the
program budgets, including expense tracking and approving
appropriate disbursements for payment to vendors, venues, etc.
Maintains budget formulation documents for each even/program and
reports budget outcomes per event. Holds the engagement team
accountable for keeping an accurate accounting of all related
expenses. Responsible for producing budget reports pre and post
event.
Responsible for making decisions/recommendations for hiring and
training of direct reports in consultation with senior leadership
as well as performing supervisory duties. Provide direction and
coaching for staff to create strategies for all programs, ensuring
all programs have programmatic, attendance and fundraising goals.
Direct all engagement staff in providing exceptional customer
relations to internal and external audiences. Coach and lead staff
to work collaboratively with academic leadership, University
colleagues and key constituents. Follow university and university
advancement policy and protocol and continuously works to enhance
both with industry best practices. Responsible for fulfilling other
duties as assigned.
Works closely with the Assistant Director of Programs and
Outreach to lead the Association’s 5 awards and recognition
programs. Responsible for managing the awards nomination process,
honoree selection and ultimately, honoree stewardship. Works with
Colleges/Units to engage and cultivate honorees leading up to their
recognition during Homecoming and beyond.
Cultivates the scholarship strategy and manages staff
responsible for the Association’s 4 scholarship programs.
Responsible for overseeing the scholarship application process,
scholar selection and scholar stewardship. Works with key volunteer
leaders and Colleges/Units to engage scholars beyond their
recognition.
Works closely with data management team to build out an
engagement dashboard that tells the story of the impact of programs
and outreach. Informs senior leadership on areas of
engagement opportunity. Responsible for reporting out data post
program/event while ensuring impact, innovation and engagement are
top of mind. Knowledge of CASE and industry standards, ensuring
measurement of the four modes of engagement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience related to the job
duties or in an advancement field; or a high school
diploma/equivalent and experience equal to ten years. (Note:
post-high school education can substitute for experience at the
equivalent rate.)
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office products suite (Excel,
Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), or equivalent software.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships.
Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals,
and objectives.
Excellent communication skills to include effective writing and
interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work
assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detail-oriented
environment.
Ability to handle confidential, sensitive information with the
highest degree of professionalism.
A valid Florida or Georgia Driver’s License, or the ability to
obtain.

Preferred
Experience in alumni relations or related fields, with a track
record of success in developing and executing strategic
programmatic initiatives.
Strong project management skills, including the ability to
manage deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously.

to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
