Director of Annual Giving

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Advancement, this
position functions as the key support in fundraising efforts with
the University. This position primarily focuses on engaging and
cultivating donors, with a particular emphasis on securing annual
contributions. Responsibilities include managing One Mount One Day,
all annual appeals, and giving associated with events. The Director
works closely with the Assistant Vice President for Advancement to
develop and implement fundraising initiatives, all while
maintaining strong relationships with donors, alumni, and
stakeholders.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Leadership/Major Giving Solicitation:

  • Manage a giving portfolio of approximately 50 alumni.

  • Conduct personal solicitations with annual fund donors and
    prospects.

  • Work with the Assistant Vice President for Advancement to
    encourage financial support from alumni/ae.

 

 Annual Giving:

Design and execute an annual giving program that will cover a
variety of solicitation methods including direct mail,
e-communications and other creative uses of technology to increase
annual donations and gift revenue, focusing on alumni and other
constituencies as appropriate.

Develop a yearly plan and calendar of solicitations for both
undergraduate and graduate alumni.

 

Volunteer Engagement:

Recruit and meet with annual giving volunteer committees and
oversee the Class Agent Volunteer Fundraising Program.

  

Fundraising Strategy:

Develop and implement annual giving strategies to achieve
fundraising goals.

 

 Fundraising Campaigns:

a. Plan and execute annual fundraising campaigns, including:

  • Direct mail (Fall Appeal, President’s Appeal, Cornerstone,
    Giving Tuesday, Christmas Card Appeal, Tax Year End Appeal, Reunion
    Appeals)

  • Develop content

  • Draft letters of support

  • Work with the Administrative Assistant to distribute
    solicitations in a timely manner.

 b. Online giving

 

c. One Mount One Day

  • Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of
    Advancement, lead all activities associated with the day of
    giving.

 d. Fundraising associated with events.

Data Analysis:

Analyze donor data to identify giving trends and opportunities
for growth. Use data to segment donors for targeted outreach and
tailor fundraising strategies.

 

 Event Coordination:

Organize and manage fundraising events, such as donor
receptions, appreciation events, or special campaigns to attract
and retain donors.

  

Communication and Outreach:

Collaborate with marketing and communication teams to create
fundraising materials, including newsletters, emails, and social
media content.

 

 

Budget Management:

Manage the budget for annual giving, ensuring that resources are
allocated effectively to achieve fundraising objectives.

 

 Donor Recognition:

Work to implement stewardship strategies for recognizing and
thanking donors.

 

Reporting and Evaluation:

Provide regular reports on the progress of annual giving efforts
to senior management or stakeholders. Evaluate the success of
campaigns and initiatives, making adjustments under the direction
of the Assistant Vice President.

  

Position Authority:

Supervises one full-time administrative assistant, work study
students, and graduate assistants.

 

 Job Requirements: Education, Experience and
Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 5-7 years of related work experience, or a combination of
    education and/or experience in annual giving totaling 7+ years.

  • Previous experience in annual giving.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a part of
    a team in a service-oriented environment. 

  • Strong organization, written and oral communication skills, must
    be detailed oriented.

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, SLATE, and other CRMs
    is preferred.  

  • Ability to work with alumni, donors, students, faculty,
    administrators and campus leaders. 

  • Ability to manage several projects or assignments
    simultaneously.

 

 Salary/Benefits

 

Starting Salary: $80,000 per year (commensurate to
experience)

This is a full-time position with full benefits and annual,
holiday and sick leave. The university offers a generous benefits
package, including tuition remission for graduate and undergraduate
classes at Mount St. Mary’s University, retirement program with a
match as well as a generous paid time off schedule.
