Job Summary
Action Against Hunger seeks an experienced Director of Business Development for Private Sector Health Facilities to lead our efforts in integrating and enhancing health services in Uganda’s private sector. Based in Kampala, this role involves strategic planning, partnership development, and the execution of business strategies to boost the efficiency and reach of private health facilities involved in the USAID-funded Urban Health Activity.
Purpose:
The Director of Business Development will strategize, develop, and manage partnerships with private health facilities, focusing on improving health outcomes through innovative business solutions and sustainable health service models.
Engagement:
You will engage with key stakeholders in the private health sector, government regulators, and financial institutions to foster productive collaborations and enhance the operational capacity of private health facilities.
Delivery:
Lead the development and implementation of business growth strategies, ensuring they align with the broader goals of the USAID-funded project and meet the needs of urban populations in Uganda.
KEY ACTIVITIES IN YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE:
Essential Job Duties
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy that aligns with the project’s objectives and enhances the capabilities of private health facilities.
- Identify and pursue partnership opportunities with private sector stakeholders to expand and improve health services.
- Negotiate and manage contracts and agreements with private health facilities and other partners.
- Oversee market analysis and business intelligence gathering to inform strategic decisions and project directions.
- Facilitate capacity-building initiatives for private health facilities to ensure they meet international health service standards and are sustainable.
- Coordinate with the project management team to integrate private sector strategies with overall project goals.
- Lead efforts to innovate and implement new business models that contribute to the financial sustainability and operational efficiency of health services.
- Represent the project in key business forums, conferences, and networking events to promote the project’s objectives and achievements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage a team focused on business development and private sector engagement, setting clear goals and performance metrics.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Develop and manage budgets for business development activities, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with financial targets and project objectives.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- This role requires frequent travel to various private health facilities and project sites. It involves engaging with partners and stakeholders across different settings, requiring flexibility and adaptability.

DO YOU MEET THE PROFILE REQUIRED CRITERIA?
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
- At least ten years of professional experience in business development, particularly within the health sector or related fields.
- Extensive experience working with private sector health systems, including engaging with senior-level executives and decision-makers.
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing business strategies in the health sector.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in managing contracts and partnerships.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively articulating project goals and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in local languages spoken in Uganda is advantageous.
Desirable
- Established network within the private health sector in Uganda or East Africa.
- Experience with USAID-funded projects or other international development programs focusing on health.
