Job Title: Director of Development

Terms of Employment: Full-time, FLSA Exempt

Position Overview:

The director of development will work closely with the CEO and the executive council to develop, implement and monitor a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet CNS’s service, research, and education goals. In the process, the director of development will identify and strengthen relationships with community stakeholders while actively pursuing and managing corporate and individual leads, fostering strong donor and sponsor stewardship, and seeking, applying for and managing grant funding.

Essential Functions:

• Work closely with the CEO to develop a strategic fundraising plan to meet CNS’s research, service, and education goals.
• Work closely with the CEO and the board of directors to develop and recruit members to the CNS Executive Council.
• Implement and oversee the strategies outlined in the strategic plan.
• Maintain an open and supportive line of communication with staff members working on CNS fundraising goals.
• Seek, apply for and manage grants.
• Work closely with the COO to secure support from staff members.
• Oversee PR, newsletters, and social media content to promote CNS fundraising.
• Prepare monthly reports on fundraising efforts for the CEO and boards.
• Create a donor list and partnerships to support fundraising efforts and establish sound relationships with these donors and partners.
• Stay up-to-date on fundraising issues and trends that engage the plant-based movement.
• Create and implement evaluation processes for all fundraising efforts.
• Complete special projects, as needed.

Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:

• Seven or more years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, donor development, and management
• In-depth understanding of the CNS mission and the whole food, plant-based (WFPB) lifestyle’s relationship to personal, community, and planetary health
• Superb communication, both orally and in writing, with the ability to present clearly and energetically to individuals, groups, media, etc.
• Expertise in fundraising software and tools
• Strategic thinking and understanding of how operations and finances support the broader mission of the organization
• Commitment to results and a can-do mindset with emphasis on accountability
• Must be based and authorized to work in the US
