The Mission
The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) is working
to improve the lives of individuals with learning disabilities and
attention issues—by empowering parents and young adults,
transforming schools, and advocating for equal rights and
opportunities.
Position Summary
The Director of Development will lead and manage the overall
development efforts of NCLD. She/he/ they will work closely with
the CEO to design and implement a broad development effort to
secure program-related and general operating support for NCLD from
individual, corporate, foundation donors as well as support from
government agencies. The Director of Development will also work
with NCLD’s board of directors to identify and secure new sources
of support for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all individual giving efforts, including:
○
Major gift solicitation and stewardship efforts
○
Direct mail and online solicitations
○
Identification and cultivation of new prospective individual
donors
- Working with an outside consultant, coordinates all aspects of
annual gala and smaller donor events throughout the year. - Coordinate the efforts of NCLD’s board giving and board
fundraising efforts. - Maintain grant calendar and coordinate the submission of
proposals and reports to current and prospective foundation and
corporate funders. - Prepare periodic reports for NCLD’s board of directors and
participate in board meetings as requested. - Ensure that all contributions are acknowledged in a timely and
appropriate manner and that donor records are accurate. - Supervise and coordinate the work of all external development
consultants. - Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business
administration, nonprofit management or related field a plus. - 7+ years of experience in nonprofit development / fundraising
work, two years of managing a development effort. - Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to secure
the confidence of existing and prospective donors. - Experience with donor databases or CRMs (Salesforce a
plus). - Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize work and adjust to multiple demands.
Demonstrated ability to follow tasks through to completion in a
timely manner. - Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and oral
communication skills. - Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead
projects from concept through execution with teams, with
overlapping timelines. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with
individuals and cross-disciplinary teams. - Positive attitude and commitment to teamwork.
- Strong work ethic and high standards for personal and
professional excellence. - Acute attention to detail, and dedication to quality assurance
and follow-through. - Sense of humor.
- Passion and commitment to NCLD’s mission. Prior knowledge of
learning and attention issues is not required, but a willingness to
learn is essential. - Ability to work flexible hours, as needed.
