Position Description: Director of
Development

In collaboration with the College President and the Berkshire
Community College Foundation Board of Directors, the Director of
Development provides strategic leadership for all development
aspects. This includes overseeing internal and external fundraising
activities for both the College and the Foundation. The Director
strengthens relationships with individuals, businesses, and
foundations, cultivating increased giving based on established
goals and fundraising objectives.

They develop and implement comprehensive efforts supporting
College priorities with an equity-minded approach, focusing on
student needs through scholarships, emergency funds, and special
projects. The Director of Development reports directly to the
President and serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Focus:

We seek a Director of Development proficient in best practices
for annual giving plans, donor cultivation, stewardship programs,
planned giving, and and technology/systems for communication and
fundraising tracking. The Director of Development collaborates with
the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at BCC on fundraising,
planned gifts, and database management.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • A record of achievement in development areas such as annual
    fund, donor cultivation, major gift solicitation, and
    corporate/foundation relations.
  • Computer literacy, experience with fundraising databases
    (Raiser’s Edge preferred), and the ability to mine and track
    digital data.
  • Demonstrated ability in prospecting, cultivating, and managing
    relationships with donors.
  • A passion for fundraising, creative writing skills, and the
    ability to produce impactful materials with the Marketing and
    Communication team.
  • Strong management, organizational, and interpersonal
    skills.
  • Experience with assessing development efforts and highlighting
    impact through various communication channels.
  • Commitment to equity-minded and community centric fundraising
    and understanding of the community college mission.
  • Experience leading teams, ideally in a fundraising or
    development environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree, with a master’s preferred, and at least
    five years of fundraising/development leadership experience.

The Institutional Advancement team, led by the Director of
Development, includes the Director of Alumni Relations and Events
and the Associate Director of Advancement Services and
Operations.
