DESCRIPTION
SIFF is seeking a dynamic Director of
Development (DOD) with demonstrated success in managing teams and
engaging donors. The successful candidate will lead SIFF’s
Development team and be skilled at donor relationship management
and developing fundraising strategies. This position reports to and
partners with the Executive Director to steward and grow SIFF’s
portfolio of donors who contribute $2.5M-3M annually. The DOD will
lead the team of frontline fundraisers focused on Individual
Giving, Institutional Giving, Membership, and Sponsorship. The DOD
will strengthen the culture of philanthropy at SIFF in partnership
with the Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, Board of
Directors, Senior Leadership Team and community to identify and
cultivate new donors while energizing and stewarding the donor
base.   About the position SIFF’s Director of
Development is responsible for the strategy and execution of all
aspects of the organization’s efforts to generate contributed
revenue. This is a critical role on the senior leadership team that
requires a highly skilled and innovative Development professional
that loves to solve challenges collaboratively and is experienced
with creating adaptive strategies to lead the way in this industry.
This role works across departments and this individual must have a
strong commitment to collaboration. This position will work Monday
through Friday and be available, as needed, after-hours and on
weekends to support SIFF events and festivals (i.e. attend
Development events, Board meetings, etc.). In addition to leading
the creation of all development strategies, this position will
lead, supervise and collaborate across the Development team on:
 
  • Cash and in-kind donations from individuals, private entities,
    foundations, and public entities
  • Grants from all institutional organizations including private
    entities, foundations, and public entities
  • Attraction and retention of SIFF Members
  • Annual fundraising events including the Marquee Gala and
    Closing Night parties
  • Special campaigns including capital campaigns for the
    improvement of our buildings and physical environment and/or
    endowment campaigns for the long-term financial sustainability of
    the organization

  Typical duties include:  
Contributed Revenue Strategy  
 

  • Develop a 3-year annual contributed revenue strategy that
    includes cash and in-kind donations, cash and in-kind sponsorships,
    grants and SIFF memberships and achieves SIFF’s budget goals
  • Oversee implementation of donor management system (Customer
    Relationship Management – CRM)
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors
    to determine the need and timing for any special campaigns
    (capital, endowment, etc.) and develop and execute the appropriate
    strategies for success
  • Passionately advocate for investment in SIFF and achieving
    SIFF’s strategic goals
  • Collaborate with leadership and the Board of Directors to grow
    a culture of philanthropy throughout SIFF. This position brings an
    emphasis on stewardship and relationship development to all
    planning
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure accurate reporting,
    processes, and alignment to goals; collaborate with Marketing on
    messaging and communications; collaborate with Programming and
    Operations on member and donor events or eventized screenings
  • Engage the Executive Director, Board of Directors, SIFF staff
    and consultants, as appropriate, to execute on the Contributed
    Revenue and Special Campaigns strategies

  Management      

  • Manage the Development team staff to accomplish goals and
    implement plans and strategies, including establishing and
    monitoring key metrics, providing coaching and mentorship,
    restructuring or expanding the team. The Director of Development’s
    direct reports include the Associate Directors of Development for
    Individual Giving, Institutional Giving, and Sponsorship
  • Lead management of the Development team’s approximately
    $200,000 expense budget and $2.5M-$3M revenue forecasting

  Special Campaigns    

  • Determine the staffing and support needs necessary to execute
    each special campaign
  • Develop the tools and processes required to successfully
    execute on the campaign plan; determine if additional
    infrastructure is required

  SIFF Leadership & Board
Engagement
   

  • Serves as the primary staff liaison for the Development
    Committee as well as any ad hoc working groups (e.g. Fundraising
    Events)
  • Serves as a member of the senior leadership team regarding
    organizational priorities, policies, and procedures
  • Attends Board and Finance Committee meetings and contributes to
    other Board committees as needed.

  QUALIFICATIONS   Minimum  

  • At least seven years of progressive experience and
    responsibility in generating contributed revenue, four or more of
    which were holding a supervisory position directing a
    multifunctional development staff with oversight of and/or
    experience working on capital campaigns
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity, diversity, inclusion,
    and social justice. Understanding of and appreciation for Community
    Centric Fundraising principles
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategies to
    successfully increase contributed revenue through donations,
    sponsorships, grants and/or memberships
  • Comfort with public speaking and presenting to large
    groups
  • A compassionate leader who demonstrates empathy and is able to
    promote a positive working environment
  • Experience developing and implementing new processes to
    increase the efficiency and effectiveness of a team or program
  • Bachelors or Associates degree or other combination of relevant
    education and/or experience

  Preferred      

  • Seven to ten years of progressive experience and responsibility
    in generating contributed revenue (donations, sponsorships, grants
    and/or memberships), three or more of which were holding a
    supervisory position directing a multifunctional development
    staff
  • Experience leading a team and comfort making asks for five and
    six figure gifts or more in annual contributed revenue including
    donations, sponsorships, grants and memberships
  • Proven success at developing and executing strategies to
    significantly increase contributed revenue through donations,
    sponsorships, grants and/or memberships
  • Demonstrated experience implementing new processes to increase
    the efficiency and effectiveness of development teams

  • This position schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to
    5:00 p.m. and is expected to be available for after-hours events

    during Festival and other times when the need arises

    programming and programming and events hosted by neighboring Arts
    organizations
  • This position is expected to travel throughout the SIFF service
    area to meet with donors, sponsors, grantors and members and
    occasionally travel in or out of state for conferences or industry
    meetings

  Work is regularly performed in an open office environment.
