Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for
Development, Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE), the Director of
Development, BCOE increases private philanthropy (individual,
foundation, and corporate) to BCOE through major, principal, and
planned gifts. The successful incumbent implements programs of
engagement between the campus and external constituencies in
support of multiple fundraising projects that may include, and are
not limited to: student organizations, capital projects, department
or center-specific projects, and endowed scholarships, fellowships,
and chairs. UCR development places a high value on collaboration

Educational Requirements Degree Requirement Bachelor’s degree in
related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Advanced degree Preferred Experience Requirements Experience
Requirement 6 – 10 years of related experience. Required 3 – 5
years of experience with a record of demonstrated fundraising
results in an academic or nonprofit environment. Preferred
Description Percent Time Develops and manages dynamic portfolio to
identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects for
gifts in the agreed upon range. May include corporate and
foundation prospects.
Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met. Writes
proposals for solicitation of individual, foundation, and corporate
prospective donors focusing on initiatives to support student
success and faculty research in engineering. Develops thoughtful
gift opportunities consistent with the mission and priorities of
the college, tailored to the interests of potential major and
principal gift donors. Results have a meaningful impact on the
overall goals of the/program. Collaborates with colleagues within
BCOE and across UCR Advancement. Assists with stewardship of major,
principal, and planned gift donors to BCOE.
30% Identifies, cultivates, solicits and/or stewards major gift
prospects and donors.
Builds, cultivates, and solicits an individual portfolio of
prospective donors capable of giving at the major gift level of
$25,000 or more to UCR. Systematically increases the number of
planned gift donors for BCOE. Develops a comprehensive
understanding of college and university priorities. Meets regularly
with prospective donors and university supporters (in person and
virtually). Works collaboratively with university advancement
colleagues, academic partners, students, and alumni volunteers to
achieve fundraising goals. Responsible for preparing gift
proposals, attending events, developing briefing materials,
staffing, and supervising projects as assigned. Utilizing a high
level of professionalism, the Director of Development will
facilitate meaningful donor engagement with college deans,
department chairs, center directors, students, and alumni.
30% Plans, organizes, and directs large-scale, fundraising
campaigns which include multiple components.May serve as an expert
or lead development professional in a specific academic discipline.
Develops and refines thoughtful, creative, strategic
fundraising efforts to increase philanthropic support for BCOE and
to provide new resources for BCOE students, faculty, and leadership
in the form of endowed chairs, fellowships, and scholarships;
research, building, and equipment funds; internship, makerspace,
and senior design project support; and unrestricted funds.
15% Evaluates programs using financial feasibility studies and
market research, including planning and evaluating annual
solicitation programs and making recommendations for improvements.
Attends campus, department, and development-related events to
strengthen connections between donors, prospective donors, and the
campus in support of fundraising objectives. Implements,
supervises, and evaluates projects as assigned. Directs the
planning of strategies and tactics for donor solicitation in
partnership with the annual giving team, appropriate volunteers,
and academic leaders that will increase renewals and acquisitions
in both annual gifts and leadership annual gifts. Provides
consultation and direction to BCOE faculty, staff and student
organizations in planning and marketing specific research and
educational programs to funding sources.
10% Recruits, trains, and supports key volunteers who assist in
advancement efforts.
Identifies, recruits, and trains volunteers and advisory boards
in support of fundraising priorities. Organizes and directs donor
cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship involving key volunteers
and academic leaders and participates in major and principal donor
solicitations as appropriate. Enlists the involvement and support
of the BCOE students, faculty, deans, and other UCR leaders in
contact with volunteers and prospective donors.
10% May serve as an expert or lead development professional in a
specific academic discipline.
Serves as development liaison for assigned academic
departments, centers, and/or programs.
