COMPANY SUMMARY: Eden Reforestation Projects (Eden) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization facilitating landscape restoration and community development through nature-based solutions. Compassionate Carbon (CC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eden that facilitates carbon-financed conservation and restoration initiatives. Eden/CC works in developing regions to protect and restore forests and ecosystems by working with local communities to address and mitigate the drivers of landscape degradation. Eden has active programming in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. POSITION SUMMARY: We seek a Director of Development to join our team. This position will be a senior leader within Eden Reforestation Projects. The Director of Development will lead our fundraising work in collaboration with the Director of Strategic Partnerships and the Director of Marketing. They will design and implement a revenue strategy to unlock landscape restoration and conservation funding at scale. The Director of Development will report to the COO and is responsible for developing and executing a multi-year, integrated fundraising strategy that supports the organization’s strategic plan, leading revenue-generating.

This position will be responsible for leading the current team of 6 people to actively engage prospective and existing donors, leverage and expand our partnerships and philanthropic resources (corporations, foundations, and individual donors) in collaboration with the Director of Strategic Partnerships. They will manage the development of donor prospect pipeline using Sales Force ™ and guide the team to have strategic interactions with high-priority donors ultimately leading to increased donations to the organization.

In partnership with the Director of Strategic Partnerships and the Director of Marketing, they will lead and inspire a diverse team to build robust portfolios to deliver fundraising goals. They will orient communications assets in support of this effort and may need to manage a small select group of high-touch donors when necessary. The ideal candidate is dynamic and adaptable, is an inspiring leader and knows how to lead a team through key performance indicators.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising planning and strategy development

  • Design and implement the organization’s integrated revenue strategy that supports the mission and vision of the organization in partnership with the Director of Strategic Partnerships and the Director of Marketing.
  • Accountable for setting and delivering the organization’s fundraising goals
  • Lead the conception, design, and execution of strategic initiatives and goals through collaboration with senior-level stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing to implement sales and marketing strategies that increase revenue.

Financial donor management and reporting

  • Work closely with the finance team for donor financial management and reporting. This includes setting and managing a department budget, fundraising objectives and projections by segment, analyzing results, and taking corrective actions.
  • Provide updates to the executive team on performance and progress in meeting the department’s financial goals and donor Key Performance Indicators.
  • Direct or participate in negotiations involving complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.

Leadership and collaboration

  • Define team priorities, align goals interdepartmentally, and leverage talent and organization resources for direct fundraising.
  • Coordinate and collaborate fundraising efforts with Marketing and Strategic Partnerships team to ensure cohesive fundraising and marketing strategy.

Donor Management

  • Lead team that manages both existing and prospective donors and is responsible for donor inquiries and requests.
  • Target and acquire new partners and sectors to build a robust donor base.
  • Build and lead individual major donor program strategy
  • Monitor donor file health and donor segment performance
  • Create, implement, and manage donor programs (monthly giving, 2nd gift conversion, individual major donors, and planned giving).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Expert written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
  • Effective interaction with all levels across the organization
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to lead events, projects, campaigns, and represent the organization effectively
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with donors, including High Net Worth individuals and foundations.
  • Professional fundraising experience with a demonstrated history of cultivating and soliciting significant gifts ($100k-$1m) from existing donors and high-net-worth prospects from donors as well as corporations.
  • Experience initiating and implementing strategic initiatives
  • Experience guiding strategic communications for the benefit of fundraising.
  • Experience in financial donor forecasting and delivery of budgetary responsibilities, and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
  • 10-15 years related experience, including 3 years working at a senior/executive level.
  • Requires a commitment to work in a global asynchronous team with atypical hours.
  • Travel up to 30% of the time to attend events, meet donors, or visit communities we serve including in areas that are considered off-grid as needed.
  • Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions during travel
  • Required to move about in project sites, must have sufficient balance to navigate rugged terrain, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and grabbing with hands. Overall mobility is essential.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read information. Overall mobility is essential.
  • Ability to lift to 20 pounds above shoulder height.
  • Legal authorization to live and work in the country of residence.
