ROLE of the POSITION
The Director of Development for the UNLV Howard R. Hughes
College of Engineering is a fundraising professional reporting
jointly to the Dean of the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering
and to UNLV’s Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement
Associate Vice President (AVP). The Director will be responsible
for meeting individual and unit fundraising goals.
In coordination with the Dean of the Howard R. Hughes
College of Engineering, the Director will advance the mission of
the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering by conceptualizing and
implementing strategies to increase financial support from alumni
and donors. This role emphasizes the qualification and cultivation
of prospective and existing donors that may lead to successful
solicitations of major gifts in support of unit priorities.
The Director of Development will be responsible for managing a
donor portfolio of 125 prospects with a philanthropic capacity to
give $25,000 or more to UNLV. The Director will initiate and
conduct 10-15 visits per month for the purpose of determining
philanthropic interests, capacity, and readiness of current and
prospective donors. Of these visits, 30% will be
qualification-based. The Director will also be expected to travel
outside of Southern Nevada 30% of the time to visit current or
prospective donors to the Howard R. Hughes College of
Engineering.
The Director will develop tailored cultivation and solicitation
strategies and present written and oral proposals to donors. The
Director will solicit gifts directly, working independently or with
the Dean of the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and other
appropriate unit representatives to implement successful
solicitation strategies. The Director will also participate or lead
the unit’s strategic planning for short-term and long-term
fundraising goals and work with external and internal constituents
to promote understanding of fundraising priorities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited
college or university as recognized by the United States Department
of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation
(CHEA) with a minimum of three to five years of experience in
higher education major gift development or comparable
experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in Higher Education or Alumni Engagement is
preferred. Five to seven years of comparable experience is
preferred.

SALARY RANGE
The salary range for the Director of Development, Howard R.
Hughes College of Engineering is $82,000-$85,000. Salary
competitive with those at similarly situated institutions.
