The Director of Development is a remote, full-time, salaried
position responsible for developing and implementing long-range and
annual fundraising goals and plans, working with our Executive
Director, Board of Directors, Advisory Council and Director of
Communications. The Director is responsible for overall fund
development for the organization, including acquiring new donors,
building and maintaining relations with current and prospective
donors, and seeking new funding opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Planning
- Develop a diversified annual fundraising plan that includes
individual giving, special events, major gifts, corporate sponsors,
and online fundraising and cultivation, solicitation, and
stewardship strategies. - Identify and project fundraising income and expenses as part of
the annual budgeting. - Track and report progress, opportunities, concerns, and success
of campaigns to the executive director and board of directors. - Implement, manage, and monitor all elements of the
implementation of the annual fundraising plan.
Funding Source Identification, Donor Relations and
Relationship Building and Events
- Work with board of directors and Advisory Council members to
identify and meet prospective donors and corporate sponsors. - Lead all aspects of initial donor and corporate sponsor
contacts, relationship building and solicitations. - Develop and implement strategies to build/strengthen relations
with new and current donors and - Work with the Outreach and Communications Coordinator to inform
donors and prospects of VIEW’s work, manage donor data-base and
acknowledgments, and ensure consistent donor contacts and
messaging. - Research and network to identify prospective funders.
- Make initial inquiries, cultivate interest and develop
relationships to find individual, corporate, or other outreach and
fundraising events. - Events: schedule venues, contact potential donors, develop
advertising campaigns, and oversee the many activities at the
fundraising event. - Seek speaking engagements for key leaders at VIEW.
- Prepare and submit funding proposals.
- Work with the Outreach and Communications Coordinator to manage
all communications and reports to funders. - Keep interested foundations informed of VIEW’s work.
Fundraising Goal
- The Director of Development will be planning and executing a
3-year, $6.4M fundraising campaign, with formal review each six
months. Assessment against this goal will take full consideration
of all applicable circumstances.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree with preferred master’s in business,
nonprofit management, or CFRE. - At least five years’ experience in nonprofit management,
business, sales or fundraising. - Demonstrated ability to build relations and fundraise.
- Ability to identify and secure funding/revenue through multiple
sources, including private foundations. - Experience in organizing and hosting events and donor
relationship strategies. - Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and
constant contact procedures or develop an improved system that
works for our team. - Knowledge of promotions and communications strategies,
processes and available resources. - Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours including evenings
and weekends as needed.
