Reports to the Chief Development Officer
Position Purpose: The primary purpose of
the Director of Donor Advising will include the development and
stewardship of existing and new individual donors, corporate
partners, and foundations with an emphasis on building a new
pipeline of supporters.
Job Summary: The Director will be
responsible for establishing a successful development program
focused on major and transformational gifts, corporate partners,
and foundations to help realize the Foundation’s mission. The
successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, creating
and executing fundraising strategies and annual plans and will be
accountable for managing and stewarding a portfolio of individuals,
corporate and foundations. The Director of Donor Advising reports
to the Chief Development Officer and works closely with the
programs, marketing and communications, and accounting teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Donor Cultivation and Advising (45%):
- Identify potential donors with interest in supporting our
mission, develop relationships and seek contributions aligned with
mutual interest between donors and the Foundation. - Maintain proficiency with CRM and other systems and identify
and recommend opportunities to improve. - Manage fundraising dashboards, donor stewardship and
tracking. - Oversee creation of fundraising collateral and other
communication materials. - Work closely with the Development Operations Manager to manage
donation database entries and analyze trends and data.
- Identify potential donors with interest in supporting our
- Board of Directors support (5%):
- Provide staff support for Board of Directors’ fundraising
efforts, including preparing Board members for donor visits. - Assist with providing training for Board members on fundraising
and communications.
- Provide staff support for Board of Directors’ fundraising
- Grants (public and private) (20%):
- Manage our current portfolio of grants from both public and
private sources to include:- Tracking report dates, preparing, and submitting reports as
needed, developing relationships with program staff.

strategy of grants to pursue. - Serve as lead on new grant applications.
- Manage our current portfolio of grants from both public and
- Communications (15%):
- Work with the Communications and Marketing staff, program staff
and vendors to develop communications as needed, such as donor
materials, year-end campaign, e-newsletters, website updates,
social media and annual impact reports.
- Support other development team activities (10%):
- Stewardship events, Annual meeting, etc.
- Other donor cultivation and community outreach events as
needed.
- Strategy (5%):
- Partner with Chief Development Officer and other staff to guide
the fundraising strategy, including staying informed of current
industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from four-year college or
university. - Minimum of five years’ experience with closing 5 and 6 figure
gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations and with a
track record of meeting fundraising goals. - Knowledge of development principles, fund raising techniques
and ethics, and donor and prospect strategies. - Experience with donor databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
- Experience with biomedical research organizations a plus.

Ability to travel as needed, including overnight
