Job Description:

The Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship produces,
manages, and implements all aspects of donor relations, gift
recognition, and stewardship of donors. The Director is responsible
for creative and timely stewardship, which includes but is not
limited to designing, drafting, writing, editing, coordinating, and
executing an institution-wide comprehensive donor relations and
stewardship system that appropriately and consistently promotes
interaction with and recognition of donors at all levels.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Advancement, the
Director must develop and sustain positive and mutually-rewarding
relations between the college and its donors. Establish, implement,
and maintain effective stewardship best practices to position
Goucher College and convey appropriate gratitude to ensure donors
are appreciated and recognized in a timely fashion. Partner with
college leadership, administration and faculty as well as
Advancement staff to determine the best strategies for effective
stewardship of donors; manage stewardship staff; draft, edit and
compile detailed annual stewardship campaigns for donors; maintain
ongoing and active networking with internal and external
constituencies; and advise on the facilitation of recognition
events and coordinate various activities for donor societies
including the Goucher Society, the Van Meter Club, and the Second
Century Associates. This includes the cultivation of individual
donors, mail campaigns, design and production of various print
materials. The position also requires the coordination of events,
meetings, programs and other elements designed to enhance positive
relations with all donors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • 35 % A.   Develop, manage  and implement donor
    recognition procedures and activities for a wide range of giving
    levels to include stewardship for annual gifts, stewardship
    reporting to donors of endowed scholarships and professorships and
    major capital gifts and the production of an annual report.
  • 25 % B.   Partner with the President, Vice President
    for Advancement, Assistant Vice President for Advancement, the
    Director of Development, the Director of Annual Giving, and other
    Advancement Staff to determine the best strategies for effective
    stewardship of donors to include recognition events, naming
    opportunities and reporting requirements.
  • 20 % C.   Utilize creative writing skills to produce
    highly engaging and effective correspondences that include
    condolence letters, acknowledgement letters, stewardship reports,
    endowed fund reports and other communications as needed on the
    behalf of the President and Vice President. The Donor Relations and
    Stewardship office manages over 20 different letter templates and
    forms annually.  
  • 15 % E.   Establish and maintain relationships with
    colleagues across the campus to understand the impact of gifts on
    the campus and academic programming.
  • 5 %   F.  Supervise and evaluate the Assistant
    Director of Donor Relations

Education:

Required:  Bachelor’s degree

Professional Experience:

Required:  Five to seven years of experience in stewardship
or donor relations

Preferred:  In a higher education setting

Computer Skills:   Proficiency in all Microsoft
products

Other Skills, Abilities, Qualifications: 

Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in donor
relations for annual and capital fundraising campaigns; 
proven abilities in creative and business writing; proven knowledge
of business arithmetic with an understanding of analytics and
statistics; can read budget reports;
skilled in maintaining confidentiality; demonstrated
ability of good judgment and prudent decisions; ability to express
ideas clearly, concisely and convincingly; ability to evaluate
processes and to make recommendations for improvements and
implement changes; demonstrated ability to provide a high level of
service within a group and to also work independently; strong time
management and workflow planning skills; strong attention to
detail; good communication skills and flexibility; willingness to
learn new technology and be a valued member of a team

Must be familiar with the strategic plan of the institution,
using its goals as a guide when making decisions that impact the
reputation of the college.  Must use sound judgment,
representing the college in a professional manner.  Must have
strong interpersonal skills, comfortable dealing a variety of
constituencies.  Must be able to coordinate and facilitate the
efforts of diverse individuals and groups to accomplish commonly
held objectives.  Must be a self-starting team player able to
design and carry out individual and team performance measures.

$68,000.00-$80,000.00
