Summary of Position

TRLT is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as our Director of Engagement. This individual will lead and grow TRLT’s outreach and fundraising efforts to support land acquisition, stewardship, and community engagement and TRLT’s annual operating budget of $1.25M. The successful candidate will be experienced with various aspects of fundraising, be dynamic, detail-oriented, self-directed and dedicated to TRLT’s mission. 

The Director of Engagement is responsible for creating and executing a long-term fundraising and associated communications plans to advance the organization’s strategic goals, including annual giving, major gifts, foundation grants, corporate support, planned giving and special events. The Director of Engagement supervises the Outreach and Events Coordinator and Development Associate. The Director of Engagement is a full-time, professional position with a competitive salary and benefits.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising Program Development and Implementation, 65%
  • Outreach and Communication: 25%
  • Grant Research, Writing, and Management: 10%

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Superb written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills
  • 8+ years of experience in sales or fundraising, with a successful track record in meeting ambitious sales or fundraising goals.
  • Experience making six-figure sales/asks.
  • Knowledge of grant or proposal writing and grant/project management.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain personal relationships with a diverse range of supporters at the local, regional level and to engage diverse groups in conservation efforts.
  • Highly collaborative, able to be a contributing member of TRLT’s senior leadership team and local conservation partnerships.
  • Dynamic understanding of marketing, sales, or fundraising principles, including established best practices as well as emerging tactics.
  • Demonstrated talent in the art of creating sales, fundraising, or marketing content, and a sharp eye when editing for exacting accuracy and maximum emotional impact.
  • Experience with the optimization of donor databases and fundraising software to drive progress toward both determining and achieving fundraising goals.
  • Familiarity with wealth research and prospect portfolio design.
  • Comfortable leading a hybrid-work team.

Generous benefits package includes:

  • Two weeks paid vacation (pro-rated) increased to three weeks at one year of employment. Employees increase to four weeks of paid vacation after four years of employment.
  • 8 sick days, 7 days of “flex” paid personal leave and 8 paid holidays, and the office is closed from Christmas Eve through New Years Day.
  • Eligibility for a 2-month paid sabbatical after 7 years.
  • Health Insurance and Dental Insurance, Health Savings Account contributions, Basic Term Life and AD&D Insurance.
  • Matching SIMPLE IRA retirement contributions up to 3% net salary.
