Position Summary
As an integral member of the Medical Advancement Strategic
Engagement team, the Director of Engagement Operations, will be
responsible for developing creative printed and digital materials
to report, recognize and celebrate philanthropic commitments of
donors to the School of Medicine and Siteman Cancer Center. The
position will work closely with University Advancement’s Donor
Relations and Stewardship teams, other medical engagement directors
and faculty to create the materials and establish best practices
related to stewardship and donor acknowledgment. The successful
applicant for this role will be well organized, an experienced
writer and a strategic thinker who is naturally curious and enjoys
peeling away layers of information to find answers and creative
ways to show impact and steward donors.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Compile and write donor reports for endowed fund recipients and
impact reports or letters for donors giving to expendable research
funds and as required by endowment gift agreements, with an
emphasis placed on reports for endowed professorships and
scholarships. Think creatively and strategically about additional
stewardship or enhancing current efforts for high-level donors.
Perform an overall audit of all endowed and expendable funds within
the School of Medicine and develop a comprehensive communication
strategy to report the impact of philanthropic support to
donors. - Develop contacts with other schools and university offices
(finance office, financial aid, student affairs and departments) to
ensure an accurate record of funds and make accessing and
distributing related information more efficient. Conduct an ongoing
audit of donor funds and prepare a monthly report for the Assistant
Vice Chancellor to enable progress tracking of stewardship
activities. - Manage Engagement Operations staff, currently including an
Associate Director of Engagement Operations. - Oversee the Dean’s gift acknowledgment letter and tribute gift
processes, managed by the Associate Director of Engagement
Operations. - Establish and maintain a major gift tracking system to include,
but not limited to, how many major gifts are made, donor retention
rate and outcome of stewardship and engagement efforts to help
establish and track key metrics. - Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in English, journalism, or writing or strong writing
background. - Five years of professional writing and/or development
experience. - Experience working within a database and intermediate Excel
skills. - Demonstrated experience with strategic thinking and project
management. - Experience working in an intellectually rigorous and complex
medical school environment. - Past supervisory experience.
- Experience in a fundraising environment.
- Exceptional writer and editor.
- Intellectual curiosity and interest in creatively investigating
projects to fill in any information gaps and ensure accuracy. - Ability to effectively communicate scientific and technical
concepts to a general audience. - Ability to articulate the needs, interests, and accomplishments
of the School of Medicine to a wide range of audiences. - Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and
accuracy. - Proven ability to work collaboratively across functions and
departments. - Capability to analyze, condense, and synthesize information to
provide accurate analysis and summaries. - Track record as a creative and innovative thinker, as well as a
resourceful problem solver. - Flexible, able to adapt to changing circumstances and manage
multiple priorities. - Possess a genuine commitment to the advancement of science and
education. - Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and
experience with constituent databases.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of five years of related experience.
