Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. The School has built a reputation for its continued pursuit of excellence, rigorous education and training programs, cutting-edge multidisciplinary research, progressive pharmacy practices, efficient business operations, and its outstanding faculty, staff, and students. Position Summary

The Director of Finance is responsible for the day-to-day finance operations of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. In this capacity, the position incumbent is responsible for providing overall direction of financial operations across all divisions, offices, and units of the School. The position is the subject matter expert on State, University, and School level financial policies, procedures, and processes, and will provide guidance to all departments and divisions, advise the leadership in budget and financial matters, ensure the financial activities are accurate and compliant with financial and accounting regulations and procedures. The position provides advanced budget & financial modeling and generates detailed analyses of financial operations and the financial outlook of the School. The Director of Finance monitors financial operations, prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on financial variances, provides recommendations to maintain a positive cash flow. Develops and administers the School’s annual budget process. The position will supervise subordinate finance staff and will work closely with and report to the Executive Director of Finance and Facilities Services to develop budget and financial strategies for the School.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Mid-career with Masters and 1-2 yrs experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 yrs experience

Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and direct work of the team
Ability to communicate effectively with excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to use Microsoft 365, including advanced Excel skills
Ability to function independently, while also working in a highly collaborative environment
Ability to think strategically, identify and solve problems
A desire to learn and a commitment to excellence
Ability to prepare budget/financial reports

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Minimum of 4 years budget/financial modeling and reporting experience, preferably in a higher education or nonprofit environment.
Demonstrated analytical skills including ability to analyze large volumes of data, solve problems, find efficient way to complete tasks, and make decisions.
Prior experience using PeopleSoft.
Prior supervisory experience.
