Job Summary:
Guided by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, as well as other authoritative sources, the
Director of Finance manages IAC’s financial matters, develops appropriate reports, and oversees the
organization’s annual independent audit. Supports organizational mission by achieving financial
stability and providing accurate financial reports.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support all IAC departments by regularly reviewing financial results, advising them on meeting budgeted goals and objectives, improving profitability, and ensuring any budget variations are analyzed and responded to promptly.
- Oversee work of the Accounting Manager and all finance department vendors.
- Oversee audit preparation, update internal control policies, and ensure implementation of policies throughout the organization.
- Oversee and prepare the monthly financial statements for the board Treasurer and Finance Committee.
- Meet and update IAC’s Finance, Investment, and Audit committees, reporting on IAC’s financial status and progress toward its financial goals.
- Coordinate and prepare IAC’s annual budget.
- Ensure IAC’s compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and monitor activities to preserve IAC’s 501(C)(3) status.
- Takes the lead with Finance Committee, Board Treasurer, and CEO to develop strategies for financial management, planning, and forecasting.
- Serve as Finance Department representative on the IAC’s Executive Team, which directs the organization’s strategic planning and goals.
Additional Job Functions:
- Establish and maintain relevant accounting policies & procedures ensuring accurate financial reports.
- Assist IAC departments and staff with financial aspects of mission-oriented programs and activities.
- Prepare all applicable tax and information returns to be filed with state and federal governments on behalf of IAC.
- Manage the IAC’s investment monitoring, reading, and analysis.
- This is an onsite position and may allow for occasional remote work
Competencies Required
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills required with a strong ability in
public speaking, especially with artists and patrons in person and via phone and email.
Relationship Building: Interpersonal skills which can be utilized to engage with donors, artists,
patrons, and fellow team members.
Time Management: Strong ability to manage multiple projects and calendars to ensure on time
completion working independently and as part of a team.
Professionalism: Focus on positive communication and teamwork in order to execute and meet all
job responsibilities.
Integrity: Fosters an environment of honesty and reliability in the workplace.
Additional Education/Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
- Combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- At least 3 years’ experience managing a finance department, vendors, and/or team
- Experience working in nonprofit accounting
- CPA may be used to substitute experience requirement
- Experience using Abila MIP preferred
- Employee must be able to move freely about the work site and perform routine physical and manual tasks associated with the position including the ability to lift 25 pounds
