What You Will Do:   

With a key focus on individuals and relationships, the Director
of Individual Giving is a key member of the Development Team. The
director will have a $750,000 individual giving revenue goal that
they meet through managing a portfolio of donors and prospects,
cultivating new donors, and overseeing the planning and execution
of cultivation events.  This position is based in our New York
office with some local travel required. 

The New York region is entering our second decade of operations
and we are positioning ourselves to serve ~2,500 students by FY30.
To meet this goal, we must increase our annual operating budget by
~$3 million. As a member of the Development Team, the Director of
Individual Giving will play a leadership role in this growth by
cultivating and stewarding community members as individual donors
to Bottom Line. You will manage the New York region’s individual
giving portfolio, support with planning and executing the annual
benefit, and implement strong systems and processes to ensure a
positive donor experience. 

A strong candidate for the Director of Individual Giving is
someone who derives joy in building authentic relationships with
donors and actively leveraging those relationships in order to
secure financial support for the organization. You are inspired to
build the champions we need for our growth and thrive in one-to-one
conversations with donors. You understand how to motivate major
donors to give and how to nurture their engagement with Bottom
Line. You are excited about the opportunity to build this portfolio
for the New York regions and play a leadership role in building a
new Major Gifts program.   

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Individual Giving & Portfolio Management –
70%
 

  • In collaboration with the Managing Director of Development, and
    the Executive Director, manage the New York region’s individual
    giving portfolio from prospect to stewardship, successfully meeting
    the region’s $1.2 million annual individual giving revenue
    goal 
  • Build and manage a robust calendar of in-person one-on-one and
    group meetings with major donors, both off-site (i.e. lunches,
    coffees, dinners) and on-site (hosting donors for site visits),
    both independently and in partnership with the Executive Director
    and Managing Director of Development 
  • Support the implementation of strategies and best practices to
    provide a positive donor experience that yield high engagement,
    increase donor retention, upgrade existing donors, secure new
    donors, and close major gifts 
  • Manage a portfolio of ~100 potential and existing donors,
    providing strong engagement opportunities, touch-points, and proper
    stewardship for all levels of donors by identifying the appropriate
    relationship holder among the Director of Individual Giving,
    Managing Director of Development, and Executive Director 
  • Lead the Leadership Council, cultivating leaders and monitoring
    term limits; monitor the region’s annual Board give-or-get
    process 
  • Conduct donor research and qualify new individuals for
    leadership positions and/or major giving 
  • Prepare and execute proposals for gift solicitation and
    individual stewardship plans for individual donors in
    portfolio 
  • Utilize Salesforce CRM and deliver timely follow-up to
    prospects/donors and key staff  

Donor Relations & Stewardship – 20% 

  • Collaborate with Manager of Donor Experience to develop and
    implement engagement and stewardship calendar for all individual
    donors 
  • Plan and execute 3-5 donor events each year to attract,
    cultivate and steward high net worth individual donors 
  • Collaborate with development and program staff to craft mailed
    and/or e-mailed communications to all individual
    donors  

Team Support (10%) 

  • Work closely with the national finance and regional development
    teams to ensure all donations related to individual giving are
    accurately recorded 
  • Provide support in developing and implementing a new framework
    for engaging students as representatives of Bottom Line to funders
    (via written stories, appearances at meetings, etc.); ensure that
    all students who participate feel prepared and empowered in their
    interactions 
  • Support the department’s efforts to embody principles
    of Community-Centric Fundraising  
  • Work collaboratively with the National office and other regions
    on shared projects and opportunities relevant to individual
    giving 

Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any
time with or without advanced notice.
 

 

Work Schedule: 

Monday-Friday, 9a-5p or 10a-6p; flexibility may be requested.
Additional hours as needed. 

Hybrid schedule with minimum of 1-2 in person days each week in
NY office. 

Expected Travel: 

Minimal, approximately 1-2 times/year.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and work
    authorization 
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of related work experience 
  • Proven track record of soliciting and securing 4 and 5 figure
    gifts and executing donor events, or related experience working in
    a fast paced, results-driven environment 
  • Experience supporting and/ or managing an annual event/gala
    yielding over $1m in revenue 
  • Demonstrated success managing high-volume portfolios and
    closing five-figure gifts and above 
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, implement and assess
    individual giving strategies, plans and activities 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish creditability and confidence
    with volunteers, donors and prospective donors 
  • A strong communicator – particularly with respect to one-on-one
    meetings, moves management and appropriate follow up with donors
    and prospects 
  • Experience in nonprofit development and fundraising or
    corporate sales 
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a changing
    environment and as part of a team, regularly communicating with
    internal and external participants and stakeholders 
  • Demonstrated proficiency and/or growth potential in Bottom
    Line’s seven core competencies: Relationships, Results,
    Communication, Inclusiveness, Talent Development, Agility, and
    Planning 
  • Demonstrated commitment to Bottom Line’s Mission,
    Vision, and Core Values
     

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Greater New York funding communities a
    plus 
  • Experience with Salesforce and Community-Centric
    Fundraising
